Our shogun is provin extremely useful at the moment. We have it for camping and for whenever we need a double bed or 7 seats! My capri is still off the road, her car is a 1990 Eunos with a cold killed battery so at the mo she drops me off at work and then heads to her work in the shogun. We have it in simple 4 wheel drive at the moment and not yet had a reason to use the diff lock or different ratios it's superb. However it's a big heavy curse word and doesn't stop as well as it goes! Here she is before the freeze ![](http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c33/Daveyboy20/b9cc6f8f.jpg) Proving that it does camping VERY well!! ![](http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c33/Daveyboy20/54850225.jpg) And battling through the freeze! ![](http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c33/Daveyboy20/5949db21.jpg) Awesome car

I've got the Mk1 Shogun already - but admit I prefer out in the Lexus or E28 and have fun where possible. the rest - plan it ahead and take your time - the only possibility is that not everyone can concentrate ALL the time - and it only takes a split second..... TBH - if it really is THAT bad in your area and the variomatics won't cut it, then you actually NEED a 4X4 and should have replaced the 'lemon' Disco.... get hold of PandaSelectas' Delica and get it repaired...... ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

Just had a bit of a mission getting the MX-5 back into the parking space outside the house. I'd got out, to tesco and back no problem, but getting back into a space with a fresh 5" of snow on it, when you're in a car with about 3.5" of ground clearance involves a shovel. I was kind of wishing I had something else, but meh, just a pain in the ![](http://www.wired.com/images_blogs/underwire/2009/11/fox_60.jpg) that my mums insurance company want silly money to add me onto her 1.4 fabia, I'm sure that would have managed it fine. 4wd would have been handy, but that said a vectra cruised past no problem while I was digging, I think it's just the MX-5 being light and rear wheel drive causing the issue. Would have helped if passers by had stopped making stupid comments and actually helped though.

Have a couple of pics from my last trip out today, anyone guess what I was doing??.. Not much snow about as this roads is sheltered by all the trees but muchos ice, and the photo's make the hilly bits look much less than they are! It's hard to appreciate how steep this bit is (the Suzuki driver obv didn't ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) ) but try to see the bottom of the hill over the passenger side wing mirror and you'll sort of get the idea.. ![](http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e254/caddilac21/blackberryphotsprechimbo474-Copy.jpg) If anyone on here can get a 2wd car on road tyres up this T junction I'll happilly give them a shiny pound coin! ![](http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e254/caddilac21/blackberryphotsprechimbo476.jpg) ![](http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e254/caddilac21/blackberryphotsprechimbo473.jpg) ![](http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e254/caddilac21/blackberryphotsprechimbo477-Copy.jpg) Diahatsu's are great trucks, agricultural, but tough as hell and very very good off road, the independents or TDX's like that one ride much better than the old beam axle ones but don't discount them they are great value.. here's my old one (off road/road legal toy) .. ![](http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e254/caddilac21/fourtrak002.jpg)

Wouldn't touch a Frontera with the proverbial ten footer though... Mind you that's mainly because I am allergic to Vauxhalls.. This was my opinion as well, unfortunately after all her talk of wanting a big yank 4x4 or land yaught her indoors saw a Frontera sport and wanted one, so we just picked this up this very afternoon, I'm expecting it to burst into flames or be a big pile of rust by tomorrow morning. :S ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v173/popuptoaster/Frontera/CIMG3051.jpg)

I am bidding on a Frontera Sport but I'm letting it go (£5 over my top bid of £200 lol) I figured that if i need to get to work i can walk to the office and get one of the work Landrovers for the time being. I was driving the Octavia vRS all weekend out on call and to be honest it was fine HOWEVER I am considering a 4x4 at somepoint because my work ask me to go out and check stuff in whatever weather when I'm on call, so i could potentially get my car badly damaged (through other drivers or myself) or stuck (low profile wide high speed tyres, lowish suspension etc).
Couple that with the need to tow a 14ft trailer with my Ax on and a 4x4 starts to make more sense.
How much did the Sport set you back Popup?

Popup - if that Frontera does prove to be a bag of nails, the canvas roof and mechanism is quite sought-after on the frontera owners forum. You may even be able to swap it for a hard top plus some cash, I would reckon.

I came up the one past bucklebury farm park yesterday and was met with a focus down it too fast, wouldnt be suprised if thats ina tree too Nah It's Lambdens Hills, goes between Bradfield Southend and the A4 next to the Winning Hand pub, it's the quickest route for me to cut trough from the A4 to Bradfield.. The imaginatively titled Back Lane is the one where you met the focus, i dunno what it is about that road, but everyone drives to fast down it, you should pop in for a cuppa one day if that's your route you virtually drive past my house.. Cool little road..

You may even be able to swap it for a hard top plus some cash, I would reckon. We paid a fair whack for an old one i think, but, it was local, its low milage, a brand new soft top and has plenty of MOT and tax on it, We wanted a soft top as well as a hard top and when this one popped up i figured it would be MUCH easier and cheaper to find a hard top for it than a soft top, talked the owner down from a grand to 800 but that was as far as i could get it down. We had been watching them on ebay ranging in price from 250 quid up to about 1500 for the later shape ones. Her pickup truck should make a couple of grand when we sell it and the money is going on taller springs and wheels and stuff for this, she has mentioned matt black, I'm trying to talk her into shiny black.

I'm using the bus or staying home as much as possible Har har har... I came home from Plymouth on the bus on Saturday, through our slightly lumpy bumpy region of Devon. Climbing a half-mile long, slightly over 1 in 10 hill with the back end of the double decker sliding from side to side was an interesting experience to say the least. And as I walked to work this morning down our high street, the bus was sat half way up the hill, wheels spinning uselessly on the snow and ice, going absolutely nowhere. I did also see a bloke very deliberately drifting a 50cc step-through scooter around a corner on the way home, slow in and then a big squirt of throttle on the way out. He had his feet down, but it still made me chuckle ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Oh and I still cant believe there 7 seaters Whats it like on fuel? All the farmers around here love em so id have to look further affield if I don't want one held together with bale twine and prayers ;D Oh and yes I have seen one going around with bale twine holding the bumpers on and holding the hinges on the rear door in place

average to poor, fuel wise but then the mud terrains lifted suspension ect didnt help, i think on the road it managed about 20mpg on a run much less when playing in the mud...
When i first got it on road tyres and stock i think it did mid 20's but then i drive most things as fast as they will possibly go most of the time, so mpg wise i get hit hard.
iirc i paid 500 for that one but I had to replace the transfer box sharpish as the previous owner had obv been greenlaning in it and punched a hole in the transfer case which was mended with chemical metal, grrr.. otherwise it was nice tidy truck and i liked it, never daily drove it though.....
spares are a bit of a mare to get iirc

I took the cortina home Monday evening and if it was'nt for the roads being full of absolute morons I'd be using that as its far better in the snow than my Audi but be as its now pretty much mint I don't want any of these majority moron drivers driving into it . 3 different idiots in the 10 mile trip home in icy back roads I had sitting so close to the back of me I couldn't see their lights in my mirror . also anybody noticed its mainly modern cars that get stuck tires are to fat and traction control causes problems pulling away plus most modern car drivers don't use their brains to drive

Nightmares racing. Have you thought that may be because there are far more of them on the road and Mr I cant drive wants all the "help" gadgets he can get yes and no really i've seen quite a few older cars round here that are coping very well in this weather the only cars i've seen abandoned at the sides of the roads are within 10 years old most of it down to lack of driving knowledge but modern car babying technology has a lot to do with that as well the car may lots of gadgets but all are built for average conditions take then out of the average conditions and they flounder most mid range cars now days run big inch wheels with low profile rubber that on its own will get a car stuck add to that traction control which does not turn off fully and you have a car thats curse word on snow fwd or rwd . then there is abs people have had abs drummed into them for the last 10-15 years just hit the brakes hard and the car will do the rest NOT IN THE BLOODY SNOW IT WON'T you hit the brakes hard on the ice or snow the wheels will lock there is no resistance to stop them the car thinks you have stopped it has no idea you are barreling down the road at the same speed as you were before you hit the brakes . there is no info out there for people to know what to do . the amount of people that are driving at the same distance behind somebody in the ice and snow as they would on a dry sunny day round here is astounding and when it come to slowing down instead of using the cars engine to do it they are just jumping on the brakes same as they would normally . if you don't believe me just stand at the side of an average road and tell me I'm wrong i would say round here you get 1 in 10 that may have some idea of what they are doing
