I picked this up from Alex77 on here back in about May? June? Since then it's been round Ireland, to Germany twice and Paris and back covering 16K with only one fault. That was a failed starter motor that was replaced with a quality item (receipt to prove). It's converted me to front wheel drive TD's so I've bought an Alfa Romeo JTD Sportwagon to replace it, this may be a flawed plan...
I've done the following to it since buying (aside from driving), fitted secondhand coilovers as bought from Dez, these are Raceland items and I'm amazed at how good they are. At the same time as getting the coilovers I bought the interior out of Dez's car which was a higher model with lumbar/height adjustable seats in black fleck, these and the matching rear seat are fitted. The rest of the interior is blue fleck and you'd be hard pressed in most cases to spot the difference. I also bought a set of 8x15in ET 35 Keskin KT3 alloys, these have a 4K old set of Kumho tyres on the front and two Toyos on the back, one of which is 1K old. The tracking was checked last week and all tyres are fine. I also fitted a badgeless FK grille.
It has a load cover which works fine and the rear headrests. Overall as I've said this Passat has been a star, I've got in it and driven across Europe with no questions. When I could be bothered I monitored the fuel consumption and at a steady 3500-4K rpm it used 73ltrs of fuel covering 732 miles, so that's about 45mpg to me. It can be a lot more when you don't drive like I do.
The downside is that it's a Cat C on the log book, it appears to have had front wings and bonnet at some stage, everything else appears to be original, inner wings etc. The drivers side electric window doesn't seat properly for the last three inches of travel before closing so needs a helping hand to slide into place.
To summarise it's got short MOT and tax, it'll need a steering rack gaitor for the MOT, the brakes will need adjusting at the back (drums and it'll come with new shoes ready to be fitted if they need 'em) and not a lot else if anything.
It's got a tow bar with single point electrics that all work, it starts with a bit of smoke that clears in seconds and rides really well. There's no headunit and it's a £500 Passat so expect dings, dints, somebody tried to force the door handle before I bought it so that's scruffy, err, it's got some rare 'Jims Factory' stickers and a Finnish 100KM speed limit decal too...
If you've got a weekend on the spanners and a bit of paint on the arches (solid) it'll scrub up nice and fly an MOT, I'm sure. If it doesn't make it's money I'll sell the wheels, load cover and suspension separately, then weigh the rest in or turn it into a garden ornament/trailer. I will do a deal on good parts for any of the cars in my signature, particularly Land Rover wheels which I need at the moment for a '63 Station Wagon or a 1500/1600 type one VW motor... In fact hit me up homies, chances are I'll deal on anything from an arcade machine to window tinting. Big bench vice, compressor, workbench... Mig gas...
Oh, I don't accept 'dibs', cash or an agreed deal is king here.
It's near Moreton In Marsh in GLOS and it's not going anywhere as it's not insured right now and is buried under two foot of snow...
Pics from a month ago, that is the only visible patch of rust on the offside wing
And the only thing it ever towed... Before I fitted the coilovers.
