Yesterday my new purchase arrived, a 1965 Volvo Amazon, I had not viewed the car I bought it on gut instinct. It was last on the road in 1994 that’s as much as I knew. The car was first registered on the 2nd of March 1965 in Sailsbury to a Mr Hayles who kept it until 1977 where his son (at a guess) became the registered owner. In 1984 the car was up in Sale and was taken for a restoration, it had all the re-chrome done and a full re-spray. However after that there seems to be one more MOT in 85 and the history ends. In 91 the history appears back with a MOT but with only another 100 miles on the clock since 1985 so it appears to have been off the road since then. Just after the MOT in 91 it was taken for a complete restoration again with everything being done, brakes, electrics, alternator conversion etc. There is no mot after the 91 and the car was last taxed according to the DVLA in 94 and there has been another 10k on the clock. After that the history goes quiet until 07 where it was bought by the previous owner and stored in a barn. Unfortunately they lost the barn and put it up for sale which is when I spotted it and bought it. I’ve only recently started working on it but I already know why it was taken off the road in 94. The entire restoration was done with filler and the electrical work was done with household terminal blocks. Let the restoration begin. After the 91 "Restoration" Original ingition key As it is now... I accidentally pushed the light in it wasnt like that when it arrived Engine bay, none runner atm. Passenger side Drivers Interior, just needs a good clean So cool! Rear seats and spares Wing "removed" was mainly held together by filler and household corking. All the rust underneath, the bottom seems very sold though its just the top that has suffered. The history. Lets see how the project progresses. Its currently in the garage and I cant move it on my own so no side pictures as it was thrown in yesterday as it was dark.

Simon at Brookhouse Volvo Parts is the man to talk to regarding sourcing repair panels etc. Brand new front wings & front panel are about £400 though from anywhere, so worth keeping an eye out for decent second hand ones, as they are out there. I've paid less than the cost of a single brand new wing for a pair & a front panel - one wing & the front panel were NOS, the other wing was s/h but perfect.

I adore these.
First saw one when I was in Sweden last year, of course 'cause Volvo is Swedish. Don't actually think I've seen one on the roads here!

It was running then (i think maybe around august 09) My friend is not too mechanicaly inclined so I told him not to get it haha good luck restoring it amazons are awesome

Charnock the guy who i bought it from lived in Kidwelly it does look exactly like that now so not sure if he moved in that time or thats where he stored the car.
Grizz i really felt for the guy who owned it as it must have been his dads car and to have that done to him is horrible. The paperwork does reveal who it was as its all letterheaded paper with the price of the work they did to it.

Yeah thats the one, it does match exactly the same from the AA badge to the missing side strip on the passenger door. Rocking like mad lol its got about a 30 degrees rock when trying to start lol. Wont even run now, it kinda did yesterday but kept misfiring so I bet that fuel in the can is the same as when you looked at it. Thanks for all the advice and links as its a big change to my normal working on minis. Will look through those projects too.

I love these they're great. There's a nice one with a staggered set of slotmags which i see regular, and been to a fair few places in scandinavia and thankfully there's still plenty of these there

Todays update... more rust. I put a bit of weight on the passenger wing and it cracked all the way along... a quick poke made this hole.... Which was made completly of filler, no metal left. Once id unbolted the bottom of the wing it came off leaving not much behind. Also removed the front panel as there wasnt much holding it in place. I'm a bit unsure on this bit, should there be somthing poking out there or should it be flat steel? (I know the rust shouldnt be there) Took the badges off too to keep them safe.

Well today i didnt do much bodypoking i spent ages re-setting the timing to tdc and trying to get the car to run, no matter how much i tried no joy, its got spark and fuel but refuses to start up. Battery went flat trying so its on hold for now. More poking revealed more bodges this was mainly fibreglass resin over very thin steel This bar is now been found out to be for the ARB, the old captive nut came free so the old bolt was ground off and knocked into the box section, this bar was then inserted with a bolt welded so they could re-attach the ARB. More places where there was fibreglass Lovley, would have been in better condition if it wasnt restored

I find it incredible that some people manage to make filler self-supporting! Still, at least it's getting done properly this time. Stick at it, Amazons rule.

Given that it looks as though you may need to do some major chassis rail reconstruction, I have some pics of what the rails should look like inside (there's a LOT of reinforcement etc in there), so if they are of any use let me know and I'll dig them out
