Do it- although much nicer places to live here than in Auckland. Like the whole of the south island to start with! But yeah, foot in door etc. just do it.

I started there in '99 and finished about 2005. Then Walton street cycles. Then summertown cycles. Bike shop slut is me. Once back in nz I landed a job at shop here in Nelson after finishing the housetruck. Visited bikezone in August while over. Great new shop and the coffee in cafe above is fantastic. Best in town! The new Bike Zone with the overhead cafe is great. I knew a guy once called Alex... He worked in bike zone and hailed from NZ.

Ah ha- I did some digging (looked at your posts) and I have deduced that you are either Will or Wills brother..is it Gareth? Excuse my muddled brain if I got the name wrong. I recognise your garage when I went there to get some xflo bits for the xflo engine I had in this Viva.

Hi Stumbled across this thread (bit of a lurker here) and I have some advice from someone who has done a bit of KL stuff, I race a 1991 Telstar with the KL here in Aus. First, do not remove that harmonic balancer and replace with an underdrive, KL’s need them. The motors are nicely balanced internally but they get a harmonic that will see you hurt the oil pump. Oil pump is a real weekness at BIG revs, like the 323 drag car of Leo’s (he turns it to 11,000, but only for 12 seconds). He has an external oil pump, I am currently doing a dry sump because the standard (even with the balancer) doesn’t like it past 7000 for extended periods, but that will not be an issue for you. But my races are 10 to 30 min, much harder than the drag cars and I was doing big ends every meet. By all means remove the outer drive, but leave the balancer.
Ditching the inlet is 100% the right move, they are curse word. For ITB’s Triumph T595 or 955i (same) as mentioned, they are 3 standalone pieces, the manifold (cast with body) is only out by 2mm in every direction (total 4mm length and 4mm height), when comparing ports, spacing, is out by about 10mm of the top of my head. Just need a 12mm alloy plate to blend it. And new fuel rails I have a couple of sets if you want to deal, I started but I have now got some Hyabusa ones, which are 45mm over 42, but unless you want 250hp you will be fine (the Blue Miata has Hyabusa, but he never got the running right and sold it off) You will get more than 130hp at the wheels if you are replacing the I'm, probably 150. I had 130 when all I did was replace the computer with an Autronic (so no AFM) and custom extractors/exhaust, everything else bog stock. Can’t say where I am now as too many changes to compare (cams/compression/ITB/heads) With that Frazer one, sell it, don’t worry about modding IMHO, you will get good money in the states on MX6 or probe sites, they go nicely on the FWD because it is over the box, these guys all love “bolt on” and don’t do the work to do it right… with a throttle body I am sure you would get an easy US$200. Also a lot of them turbo, so the large split plenum will work well for that Might be worth talking to Frazer, they have done as much as anyone, and they are local for you (well kinda not but closer than anyone else!)
BTW That cover over the knock sensor was not for resonance but to stop stuff getting into the V, ironically they deleted it in later years because it was getting fake signals… due to resonance!!!

Photo dump time as its been a while since last update. I just spent ages typing out my latest update and then accidently pressed the x of doom and lost the lot. so now a short version.. Inlet manifold- i wanted to do something in a 80s factory rally sort of look. The fraser manifld runners are too short and put the tb in wrong place plus i wanted to build my own. I did lots of thinking about designs, lots of drawings etc and read lots of stuff on nerd net. I found out about the dual plenum designs used by audi for many years; www.bufkinengineering.com/intake%20manifolds.htmI liked the idea but the tapered tube would have lost me vauable space. So I thought inside the box... I made room for the new Tps position.. milled up a lid with our aged old mill at work. Its exactly the look I have planned since first picturing a v6 in the viva The stock mazda TB is a horrible huge peice of work... so i removed this lot with the saw.. Ended up with this.. I'll weld up the remaining holes and mill it flat. This afternoon I gas cut some exhaust flanges out and Hannah had the fun job of covering herslef in small shards of metal used the die grinder to clean up the holes. I'll order some exhaust bends tomorrow. We started on the Megasquirt build. And i mean we as Hannah has been reading up the fuel injection book I bought from amazon and is pretty into it. Handy as she spotted quite a few simple things I almost mucked up when assembling it. its quite fun building it- I think the setup and tuning will be more of a drama. Note how my sideburns have gone grey from having to deal with the ownership of one small cat. I totally understand the stress parents must have... I have installed the new radiator. I actually managed a pretty neat (for me) set of welds when adding some brackets. Its shame they wont be seen. Happy with the radiator and the way it fits in. but its too shiny and will end up being painted black I think. I don't have a photo of the radiator in place but heres the weld i like.. and heres Timmy hard at work helping me... I broke out the little old mig for some hole filling. I filled in the old air feed hole for the SU carb and made a new larger hole to feed the pod filter on the other side.. Next big job to get out of the way is to build the new exhaust.
