wow- some thing wasn't right with your fc! You should have seen more than that. My old rx3 would easily do 28 mpg regulary on trips to mid wales, loaded up with camping gear with 2 bikes on the back (yep- I fitted a tow bar bike rack to my rx3 and it was so useful). I would cruise with all the modern cars at 50 to 60 on a roads but have a blast on the twisty bits. Did almost 30 mpg on long trip abroad too. That little car would just do 130mph. Went bloody well. I would have thought a fc should do 25? Although they are much much heavier. Thats fantastic... if my rx4 gets anywhere close to that i ll be bloody happy! The fc had minimal mods.... panel filter and full decatted power flow twin exhausts ( which flamed and popped beautifully at 4k rpm!) but i never saw 20mpg... at the time it didn't matter as i had a pug 405 td estate running on veg which could do 60mpg ;D so in my head this evened it out

i'm afraid your bridgeport 12a will pretty thirsty :-( but will go bloody well. Crazy about your fc though. Hey what was it like handling wise? I've never driven an fc and always wondered. We had a proper clown clothes wearing hippy neighbour though who lived in a bus where we lived in our tk. He would do his tai chi every day and only used candles for lighting his bus. Went to all the small festivals- the real smelly hippy ones. He loved fast cars though! After being driving our rotary chevette he went out and bought a limited high spec fd rx7 in white. So funny. He would take it to all his festivals. Chalk and cheese! I got to drive that. It was amazing. Proper supercar. He would get 15mpg but he drives it at over 100 plus everywhere.

I brought my FC off tourettesteddy from RR and he had brought it as an mot failure with shocking emissions... so it had been tuned etc about 2months before i got it and was supposed to be spot on Who knows... it did handle like it was on rails though! Probably would have been even better if the springs had been proper and not chopped! On thing i found was due to its weight and lack of abs it liked to lock up... which could be amusing! Funny about your hippy neighbour! Takes all sorts hey!

Looks like the Viva was meant to have a rotary motor. Nice job, mate!

Looks like the Viva was meant to have a rotary motor. Nice job, mate! Thanks man. The engine bay on these little cars are huge eh. I reckon a v12 would fit. But a little rotary will do.:-) if viva's had a 1200cc badge i'd be able to keep it in place too. Mdh- i'll look for another link somewhere but anyway its a hillman imp thats been built by a friend in scotland fitted with a 12a. Its went well enough but now he's fitted a supercharger with a draw through weber sidedraft:-) really nice conversion too.

Can you not? Are they that tough on modifying cars in Belgium? What about importing a car that has been modified elsewhere? Can you do that?

Can you do that? no cant do engine swaps here or even brake upgrades cant pas daily technical control that way . If the car is oldtimer you only have to pass technical control once than you can do swaps and upgrades but you only can use the car to do shows and testdrives

That would suck. I thinkk it may be the same issues in Italy? And Switzerland? You most look at all the amazing projects on this forum and be very jealous!
Carmad- no more vids of Viva yet. We are sorting out last little jobs on truck before we move to Nelson and start looking for work. Once I have some spare cash I'll get an engineer to certify the modifications and get an MOT. Then whoop!.. on the road for summer!!!
We'll keep coming back to my olds to finish a few tiny jobs on the Viva before then. And play with the cats!

Not a big update for now but just happy to post up that after almost 2 months since the car was last started I got back to my olds in Blenheim and finally started to do some more work on the Viva. I blew the dust off the car and thought I'd try to start it. The battery is a bit knackered..in fact I can't even remember where I got it from. I checked its voltage, it was showing 12.5 and I thought nah that wont be enough. Flicked the pump on, pulled the choke out and gave it a whirr. Vrrrrrooooooommmmmm!!! ;D Oh and the coolant level in the radiator was full which is great news too! I have found a tiny vacuum leak where the brake master meets the servo which could be enough to muck up the mixture. Now sealed. The car is now up in the air as I have the top wish bones removed in order to modify the adjustable camber for the top ball joints. Currently it has two positions which are either too much or too little negative camber. I've now slotted them so I can fine tune the camber. I'll put some photos up of the mod later. I have also very carefully and precisely 'adjusted the lips' on my front wheel arches with my professional adjustment tool... Now I wont be slicing my tyres. Btw- I would have got loads more done if I wasn't constantly mucking about playing with the cats...

Cooling fan... I would still rather a nice simple standard switch screwed into my radiator- but the problem with that is that with my switch location being at the bottom of the radiator I cant find a suitable temp switch. I want to keep this engine running at around 85 degrees. I would have to be sure of what the temperture drop of my radiator is before I work out what switch I get? I wish I had put the bloody insert at the top of the radiator now. But really cant be arsed removing it and de soldering/patching/drilling/resoldering to move it. Maybe a adjustable one from supercheap etc bunged in the top hose like on the previous chevette/rx3 projects. I feel like I'm going in circles. for now I just have a switch. I know damn right that if I don't fit something automatic then sods law will dictate that one day I will forget to switch the fan on, leave the car idling while I do something else, then come back to a very hot, very sad engine! Tonight I pointed a timing light at the car- one I have just bought second hand off trademe. The timing was waaaaaaayyyyy advanced. like maybe 20 degrees? its now running much smoother and far less smoke from unburnt petrol- although that has me stumped as I thought to much a retarded ignition timing would cause unburnt fuel? Anyway now its better but it still bogs down ever so slightly as I try to pull away, like as if the hand brake were on. I think its maybe the SU carb dashpot oil is too thin so the needle rises to quick and leans it out. The same happen if I floor the throttle hard- it bogs. But if i give it loads, a little more slowly, it revs well, smooth and loud. I took a short clip with my phone- its a bit noisy as the fan was on and well..its a bloody phone video innit. But you can hear the right sounds in there at times ... Still some adjustments to be made but overall I'm happy. I was just going to give it another tweek when the fuel ran out  So that's that for the evening.
