Not much snow anywhere this winter:-( especially rainbow. Winters definitely getting warmer and can't rely on a good cold winter. Shame.. my snowboards not seen action for 3 years.

Yeah it seems to make a noticeable difference. I suppose that sitting on 50 mph will use heaps less than 60 but I use 60 as the bench mark because that's the national speed limit here on the main roads.  Sorry mate couldn't resist  |

Aus had the first good ski season for 3 years, so may be it is either or! There is a JDM 2.5 ZE on trademe here in NZ and its been relisted once already- only 60 quid! No one seems interested.. Cheap horsepower! Id buy it as a spare but I already have another spare 2.5. That would be worth it even with freight here, wreckers want $700 for a good DE and $1100 for a ZE (but you can get a car for $300, go figure) |

Wow- that is indeed massive money for one of these engines! I know of a DE thats just sitting in a local wreakers with the plugs out and no bonnet. Makes me sad. I really ought to go there and at least cover the holes.
I always find it hard to picture Oz with snow. But thredbo gets some great white stuff so I believe? I bet it must get packed though on a good weekend- massive queues eh?
Dodgerover- I always adhere to the speed limit...most of the time...then when it gets twisty its so hard not to have fun. Saying that if its twisty enough then even getting close to the speed limit should be a challenge! Just heard of a sneaky cop who has taken to parking on the Takaka hill road (one of the best hill climbs I know) and waiting on people who dare cross the centre line. He's getting heaps of the locals. I like the challenge of staying in lane at speed though anyway.

That's hardly cricket policing the Takaka hill. The old Whangamoa was also a decent climb, I spun my Capri with a bit of spirited driving up there. At least Nelson to Blenheim is still interesting.
As for skiing here, the runs are short & you have to mind the trees.

NZ snow defecates all over Aus snow. To put it bluntly. And it's retardedly overpriced here. Am looking forward to Christmas and New Years in Japan, though. I have been looking forward to snowboarding there for a while now.  I almost lost my rental Tiida along the Haast Hwy just north of the glaciers last time I was over there. Didn't think it was possible to oversteer with them, haha. |

There is no comparison between AU and NZ snow, it is just we had a decent fall this year
When they were having trouble at the Olympics they called in a bunch of Aussies to do some grooming... because our guys are use to making something out of nothing!!!

How deep does it get up there? In a good winter here we can get about a 2m base at mt hutt. Lyford, Temple basin, porter heights- all smaller club fields can quite often see much deeper base. But nothing like Europe or north america. I spent a month boarding in Cananda/ Washington state back in 1999. I had never seen so much snow. It was actually too much because when I fell down deep into it I would end up getting knackered trying to get back up. Amnazing. Was bloody good at Whistler/blackcomb..although I cant remember it all as also so much herbs :-)

Hiya,
It measures 58cm across the widest point of the cam covers just near the front. Its 46cm from the very front of the water pump pulley to the face of the gearbox bell housing and its about 60cm from the bottom of the sump where it goes over the cross member to the top of my plenum chamber. I think the Mazda inlet manifold is lower (but a horrible ugly complex design point the wrong way)
Engines weighs about 120kg with out ancilleries or manifolds. Stock inlet manifold is about 15kg!

I have been looking forward to snowboarding there for a while now. Japan will ruin you. A couple of years ago, my brother, 2 mates and I drove down to Hotham and for the 3 days we were on the slush (it was 10*C in the middle of winter!) as well as getting there and back (20hrs in a LandRover), it cost about 2 grand. I can get nearly 3 weeks in Japan with excellent powder for the same price and be there in 8hrs (I book everything myself, so know where to go). Now if someone suggests we go down south, I hesitate heavily because it's far too overpriced for the "quality" and quantity. This February was my 6th time over there in 7 years... yep, it's like a drug. End Hijack.. |

Hah it already has! This will be my 5th trip in 2 years. This will be our most expensive trip we've done, usually we get away for 10-14 days somewhere for about $1500. This is going to set us back about $5000 we expect. But that's including posting back a looooot of cheap booze. Even if only a third makes it through customs, we still come out on top! But yes, hijack over. |

Id like to spend some time in Japan. My brother has a Japanese girlfriend and she has all her family there. Id like to do some cycle touring there too. But so many other places beckon first.
