Cheers for the help lads, been getting all misty eyed about my old Dolomite Sprint, and got a bit carried away - Both lowered a bit at the back (as it should have done) (Based on the previous page black/silver stag alloys) and on the MGF alloys that were on my old TR7 - I still can not decide between a 2500S or an 1850 (will not be able to afford a Sprint)

Two sides of the coin. One side of me automatically thinks: 1850, because after a week you'll be tired of driving what is effectively a 5-Series sized saloon around.
The other side says "well, you've had one of those (basically) and sold it. Therefore, you should try something else........"

Crickey that works much better than I expected Sweet Jesus that looks amazing! You won't get them to fit without a lot of work I'm afraid. You will have problems lowering AND fitting MGF alloys.

they drink lots of fuel, but are very gutless with it, handling is barge like, save some more money and buy a dolly sprint

I dunno. Your Sprint was obtained cheaply and whilst I admit some spares were slightly pricey and not easy to get, I cannot imagine a 2500 being that much cheaper to maintain/own . Plus a sorted Sprint would put a bigger smile on your face methinks. I should have bought that Sprint off you when I had the chance (if only the Mongdeo didn't break down so often...).

I love these old buses! think you should definitely get one! Here's my old 2000 which kinda became a 2.5s, when I was offered this really rotten one for spares. The power steering is an absolute must-have, it was sooo heavy without it! it is a little over-assisted, but it's like trying to turn a super tanker without it! Kinda wished I'd left the 2 litre engine in, never really noticed any more power and torque from the 2.5, and as said above, the 2 litlre is much more 'revy'. Not that 'chuckable', but effortless cruising, especially with overdrive. Did thousands of miles in mine, would love another!

Sorry to bump another thread, does anyone know what the manual gearbox in the 2500S is like? Not the biggest fan of the Herald/GT6 style gearbox (loose, wobbly and having to push down to get into reverse), and a big fan of the Dolomite (sharp and tight when in gear). Had a ride in a Mk2 GT6 which was lovely, really love the S-6 engine and the ride, but it is small in there isn't it! Cheers Lukes Dad Really punting the GT6 Vs 2500S Vs Dolomite Sprint. 2500S is back on my mind with value (will be able to get a nice one for my budget) where as the GT6 and Sprints seem to be getting north of £4k for a decent usable example. just need to measure to see if the big triumph will fit in the garage

Having had both a Mk1 and a Mk2, one thing that no-one seems to have mentioned is the dreaded crank end float, which both the 2 litre and 2.5 suffer from. Get hold of the crank end pully and heave up and down, anything more than the smallest bit of movement is not good. Rear axle twitch can be just down to badly greased splines, rather than knackered ujs. Mk1 2.5 pi estate for me, please!
