I'm just playing with an idea here, and the plan may well fizzle out before it starts. (Like most of my crazy schemes!) However, I'd like an opinion or two from the good folk who frequent this forum. This is the car in question. Now I have a couple of options. 1 Big wheels at the back, high front - 'gasser' style. 2 Big wheels at the back, slammed front, 'drag' style.

Gasser it or drop it low, fiat twin cam engine a box and a suitable back axle, toyota celica was a good fit but their probably a bit thin on the ground now.

Do you ever wince when you see a 1.1 Pug 206 dressed up as a full rally car? I rest my case. [edit] As discussed on Saturday, this car would really suit some appropriate treatment. Eastern Bloc.....concentrate on that. Maybe a diplomatic theme? KGB or Ruskie polie car? Something far more suited to the motor than a US influence. [/edit]

I would suggest that neither style would suit it without substantial work as they're just not straight-line cars and the body style isn't reminiscent of any kind of popular drag racing car. It is, however, ripe for the classic 1970s rally car treatment. If you squint it's almost a Datsun 1600! You're already half way there in the first photo with the white steel wheels, all you need now is a decent pair of big old-school spotlights like Cibies, then continue as far as you choose into the rally theme. A couple of centimetres of lowering wouldn't hurt it either. I'd be tempted to just do the spotlights and lowering and leave it at that, but you could go for arch flares, a vinyl sun strip on the windscreen, maybe even full rally-replica stickers if you wanted to get excited. Although I think if you went to the extent of stickering it up then you would also be obliged to fit rally tyres and mudflaps.

how about a salt flats style low smooth simple and would work as a follow on from your last one sort of taking it to the next level

Count 'Fonzie' Pandamonium>> for any of these styles you MUST redo the Lada. That means a lot of changes on engine, gearbox, diff and suspension because original sucks as hell... You can use Lada sport parts for upgrading it or find implants from Fiat's 132, 131 as the cheaper option ... The BMW e36 1.8is engine can be used too. I had an opportunity to see it in 2105 and be as a passenger on that rocket. Here is a pic of it. If anyone need more of them send me an PM, there is a short video too. For me there is nothing better as making 2105 look and run like VFTS.

Many years ago when I was a slim hairy lad, I remember reading about a 2.8i Capri engined Lada (may have been an FSO but same difference) in Street Machine that had eaten several Ford gearboxes but the original back axle was still going strong.

Bumperless works. With a bit of rake maybe? Murdered out Nice! Ignore the grill, bit cleaned lines and shiney looks great IMO! Retro-styled But is yours too recent to pull this off? You'd need serious muscle to justify this job "You givin' me lip??" Top marks! I've never seen one with really nice whels. Maybe that would be a good start.

In the Netherlands is also an 210x with a Ford 5.0 V8 in it. Looked preety stock on the drag strip.
I believed that Rover v8 swaps also have been done.

All this is academic now as current running issues are driving me to the point of torching the stupid thing (I seem to have picked up some dodgy fuel which keeps blocking the jets, not matter what I do to clean/filter it)

Doubt its dodgy fuel. Probably dodgy russian fuel tank doing it... Get the tank empty and drop it out. Rattle it around/flush it out, Then blow the fuel lines out and run a filter... Simples..... (ISH) lol..
