I see the front mudguard has a black edge. so you could do a black edge on the rear mudguard. with the guard ending at that angle. It reminds me of Raleigh Grifters. they had a mudflap on the end of the guard. Maybes you could fit one. same width as the guard. tho might look strange with the light and rego plate

Cheers mate, I'm picking up my crank case from the bike shop today, well can't wait he's fitted and balanced the crank with my racing rod and all new bearings and seals including gear box bearing. And why couldn't I split the case? Ahem.... I'd left a bolt in there under some crud - oops gonna see how far I can get with assembling the motor tonight. I'll ask the guy if he has any tips for fitting the piston and cylinder and head. Looking forward to seeing it - gonna look mint!

Haha I know pretty daft eh?! Ah well! In my defence it was hidden under a perfectly smoothed off bit of crud that looked like part of the case.... no, rubbish excuse! Not to worry, he needed to split the crank and balance it etc.. So no harm done! very much looking forward to building up the motor with all my new gear and assembly bolts

Got my motor back with sorted crankshaft and all 4 new bearings and all seals replaced New racing rod in Old bits New bits Nice new assembly kit, looking cool Fitted it last night with new mount washers etc.. Put new circlips on the sprocket Cool new NGK cap to go with my NGK plug But then I realised I've lost my crank woodruff key also forgot to order new head studs!! curse word. So back to the Netherlands for bits but unfortunately she is on hold till payday. But that's were I'm at so far Nice It was quite annoying to be stopped mid flow by an over sight in parts ordering but it gives me an excuse to push the boat out and order an 11 euro chrome ignition cover at the sane time ;D I'll update if I do anything before I get my new parts

Nice job on the overhaul. I don't know if the "gearbox" is already filled with oil but you might want to watch out with keeping the engine upside down for a long time. AFAIK there's a breather hole in the top where the oil could run out. Oh and nice job on the woodruff keys, i told you to order a bag full of them didn't i? I always lost them too.

Cheers mate ;D I know, I should've listened!! ;D The case is empty of oil at the mo, I've bought a bottle of decent putoline oil for it but I'm not going to fill it until its back on its feet anyway so all good. I'm going to order a Chrome PUCH ignition cover Exhaust studs (there are different sizes/lengths and thicknessess - I don't suppose you'll know what Ill need for a Kstar/DMP head and Biturbo do you?) Head studs Multiple woodruff keys ;D and I've found a neat little resistor jobbie that fits in your light circuit so the bulbs don't blow at high rpm!! So Ill give that a go! Now all I can do is polish it until payday when I can order my new bits and then.. erm polish it until they arrive!!!! Actually thinking about it thats not strictly true - my new switch has a slightly different layout inside than the standard one so I need to try and work out where the wires go so Ill try that next.

Still waiting on my woodruff key and various other bits. Thought I'd fit the piston last night Anyone know if this arrow needs to be facing a certain way? There are also these holes on one side of the piston Not fitted the circlips in yet as I wasnt sure if there is a specific way around for the piston to go, also the piston ring doesn't seem to be any different top to bottom and someone told me that I need to look for text on it and that should be facing up but there is none! And finally!! What's the best method for fitting the circlips that hod the gudgeon pin in place as mine just ping off when I use my long nose pliers!!

Arrow normally points up. Anyway, the holes need to be on the top, you can see where the slide underneath the booster ports inside the cylinder. Circlips don't matter, as long as they are in the groove all the way they're fine. About the piston ring, it should be like this: The part where the piston ring is cut is normally on an angle or stepped so it fit's around the little pin in the groove to locate it. I hope you understand it from the picture.

Cool so, with the bike the right way round the holes all need to be facing upwards.. Cool looks like my 50 50 gamble paid off thanks matey Not too sure what you mean bout the piston ring though mine is slightly different to the one in that pic as it only has one ring... Got my 99p cafe racer style bar end mirrors today!! Actually really pleased with them, probably gonna rust up in a week but if they so thru can be rat mirrors or somethin! Not going to fit them yet though as I'm going to get some fat black foam grips first Should look ace with some old school foam grips methinks

I mean there should be a little guide pin inside the groove in the piston where the ends of the piston ring slide over so it locks into place. This is different to a 4 stroke cylinder because in a 4 stroke there are no inlet/outlet/booster ports where the end of the piston ring could lhack into and break. On a 2 stroke the piston ring cannot be allowed to move around so it needs to lock into place over the guide pin. Maybe this picture helps:

aha! Now that makes perfect sense! Never even occured to me that it shouldnt spin round the piston, thanks again Mark
