Not a particularly exciting update but I've fallen into the habit of listing most things I'm doing to the Puch now! I went to fit a new petcock (ppffffft) and when I took the old one off I noticed the inside of the tank is a bit grubby - some oily sludge and bits of very light rust. So I showed old Puchy the cold light of day for the first time since I started the build - the carnauba wax has certainly worked it's magic on the paint as it looks well nice in the sun (no sun pics sorry) I took the petcock (pfffftt) off and put the hose in the top if the tank and blasted it through for about 15 minutes To be honest it was running clear within about 3 seconds but I gave it a darn good swill out. Went to the shop and bought the cheapest cola I could find - put the petcock (pffft) back on and filled the tank up I love beading water So that's staying in the tank for 24 hours or so - might give it a shake about tomorrow morning then I'll blast it through with water again.

an idea to help cleaning the inside of the tank, half drain the tank then put an airline onto the "petcock" and blast up through to agitate the cola then drain and rinse if you are unable to drain all the water from the tank chuck a good splash of meths in before you fuel up, to help the water mix and not sit on the bottom of the tank rusting ttfn glenn

Cheers mate - I haven't got a compressor unfortunately but I'm sure I can think of something - sounds like a good idea.
About the meths... Do you mean have meths in there as well as fuel and oil? Or put meths in when it's empty, swill it round empty again then fill with fuel?
Cheers ears

an easy supply of compressed air is a spare car tyre, the idea with the meths is any residual water in the tank will mix with it then it can be drawn through with the petrol and burnt so getting rid of any left behind techy bit pinched from the web

As an organic chemist, I can tell you water is not lighter than petrol (hydrocarbon). Given the density of water is 0.998 to 1 g/mL, petrol is less than that, about 0.7-0.8 g/mL, so petrol floats on water. Here is your chemistry lesson, do this experiment, take a bottle, add some water, then add either petrol or vegetable oil, where is the water layer? I do this type of experiment pretty much every day.
Metho or methylated spirit which is ethanol with methanol and a fouling agent (to prevent you from drinking it) added, is miscible with water, ie metho dissolves or mixes with water, such as vodka. So putting metho in your petrol tank will take out the water condensed in there. At low concentration, metho dissolves water, the metho or ethanol is soluble in petrol (at low concentration), so the tri-mixture is all miscible together. Basically when you add in metho, you have made up E5 or E10!!!

Well my strengthened sprint swing arm arrived Nice workmanship really solid looking welds! ;D I took it outside and drained the coke out: Came out with a load of muck so jobs a goodun, I blasted the hose through till it was clear and then struggled to hold the bike upside down to drain as much water as poss out. Gonna leave it a day or two till I put the new petcock on. Took the bike back inside and took the wheel off and had a look at what's needed to fit the new swingarm and....... The frickin' engine has to come back off Once again - permission to say cock!! Not to worry, it'll just take a little longer than hoped! ;D

Cheers chaps it does look smart it has to be said! Looks really strong too - I think I'll tackle it Monday - gonna have to spin the curse word over again and take the engine off. Technically shouldn't really take too long I hope!

Whatever the inspiration ir's worked ;D Can really see the difference in the swing arms when they're side by side, you'll have that on by the end of today at this rate.

Yeah it's loads sturdier! I've got my stainless bolts now and got some new clutch cover bolts too while I was at it. Not sure if I'm gonna be at home for any length of time today but if I am I'll have a go at bolting it all up

Found some time and put it back together. Few issues but not too bad. I had to make one of the mounting holes a bit bigger then it went on fine. Also had to hunt out some longer shock bolts as the new swingarm has a front and rear bracket for the shock so the standard ones weren't long enough, obviously put new washers etc on as well. I had to deflate the tyre to push it far enough back to hook the hub on to the arm and once pulled back and bolted the tyre fits - just!! I don't seem to do things the easy way ;D The kink at the back of the arm raises it by about 2 inches at the back - not the usual route I take with suspension but it shows off more tread looks pretty cool as it means the exhaust angle is a bit angrier. Chrome reflecting chrome ;D Close but no touchy Now it's mocked up here as there is nowhere on the new swingarm for the chain tensioner on the pedal side to fit.. Instead of a slot there are a succession of very small tapped holes, none of which correlate with the tensioner. I can machine a slot in it but I'm not 100% sure where the tensioner needs to go due to the new shape of the arm. When I work it out I'll have to take the wheel back off in order to fit the chain and tensioner pedal side but for now at least the arm is on and the tyre fits ;D

Nah there's no space on the swingarm to mount the tensioner, since this is a racing item and race Maxi's never have the pedal system fitted for reasons i mentioned earlier.

Oh dear - how bad do they rub mate?
Mark - I understand what you say about the pedals but I'm not planning any knee down action just yet! I would prefer to keep the pedals to be honest for novelty sake and also for if it breaks down I can still get home!! How essentail is the tensioner? My push bike doesn't have one on it for example?

Remarkably badly, might just be the wheel is misaligned but I'm not sure till i do the brakes and put the wheel back on properly.
