this, I think is my fave mk1, belongs to a friend of mine and has now been 'finished' for a couple of years now (pah!) right, meet project infinity..... chrome and hand polished engine and box!! full 'pic' thread here www.demonvwforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=18827 << click this for loads of nice piccys and 70!! page build thread here www.demonvwforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6105 << click that for the full build jobbie!! oh, and this is how he built it first time round slight change in direction I think youll agree ;D he spent 4 years building it into the blue car, decided he didnt like it, striped it down after a month and then spent another 6 years building it into the brown one!! I love it, tbh there would be a couple of things id change if it were mine, but I'm just being really picky! coops

Good looking car, looks immaculate. I prefer the brown guise.

Too be fair he started building it as the blue one in '98, so the whole 'max look' was the big look to have. He started the rebuild in 2002 after it had only been completed for 1 month, so the look was quite played out by the time he'd finished it. Don't know where he got the inspiration for the new look tho, I don't think anyone had built anything like that in 2002.

Now where have I seen that car before? Hmmm. Oh yes! I painted it. ;D It was a mixture of 2 Porsche colours (and an absolute pain to match if he loses the formula!) Tell him Steve says hi when you see him next

i always liked that brown mk1, only thing that puts me off it is the chassis legs been smoothed, just doesnt suit the mk1 having them done, everything else tho is pretty superb.

Not done lace or panneling before (a few flames, fogging, graphics etc) but more than willing to assist if you fancy a go

The rear end was given the same treatment as well. You wouldn't believe how many hours went into the smoothing. I think it sets the car off well but I know what you mean. Some people like, some people don't.

And I might just take you up on that offer, I want to do something with the roof on my Merc.

I'm not a fan of chrome bumpers with big rear lights at all on Mk1s... But that's still a gorgeous motor Not my favourite Mk1 though, not by a long way. Franco Sbarro built that one ;D

Considering the amount of bad taste that was in Max Power (my opinion, not fact) that blue one does look good. Not a fan of the wheels at all, but it was all well in 'scene' at the time. The brown version however, is just timeless goodness, especialy with the deep dish 5 spokes.
