Not sure if this counts as Chevrolet and Vauxhall/Opel are all GM, and they even kept the Corsa name, but I saw a ton of these little things in Mexico this summer: Still available new I think.

Some people are like Slinkies - they serve no useful purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them downstairs.

clearly you... it was the N12 Cherry, also badged as the Alfa Arna, to get around EU sales limits during the eighties!
I would like to through into the pot, the Daewoo Nexia, a Vauxhall Astra... Kia Pride was a Mazda 121...

Aaahhh. The Alfa Arna.
1980s Japanese style married to 1980s Italian build quality. What could possibly go wrong?
If only they'd had Nissan building Alfa Suds instead.

Now, I reeeeaally fancy one of them! I mean, looookit! Would love one of those Hindustan Victors too. So does anyone have any idea on what's involved in importing one?

Some good stuff there! Shame about how the 131 looks, pretty unrecognisable, and more like a Tempra/Regata crossbreed. Nice to see the odd Maestro got it's frenched at least! Would quite like to see a blunt Maestro front on a Montego though, that would be cool. Stinkwheel, go and compare the above front end pix with other Maestro & Montego pix Also found that apparently Chengdu Auto Works produced Morris Ital in the period 1998-1999!

hoooo my god I -must- own one of those one day that has to be the most .unusual. styling ever What unusual styling? It looks exactly like an austin maestro? It has a Montego front end. There was a "Monstro" in the RR fold a while back - Hairnet owned it for a bit I think. Don't know where it is now though. Strange looking beast! I remember seeing all sorts of weird and wonderful things the Chinese company had developed on the Maestro / Montego platform. IIRC there was some kind of 4x4 and a "modernised" saloon which looked just plain weird! ;D *Edit* Here's the van version, with Montego "face"

What unusual styling? It looks exactly like an austin maestro? the front looks like it's been pumped up ? or is it me ? it certainly looks different to my old montego edit: my brain is playing tricks then, it's -because- it looks montego-ish that I love it

As mentioned, the Daewoo Nexia is a Mk2 Astra/Belmont. Some owners of rusty GTEs use the Nexia to reshell the car. The 08 Nexia looks nicer, a little Australian to me. The Lancia Delta....Saab 600: Pars Khodoro....Renault 5 Sepand.....Renault 5 Saipa Saba.....Kia Pride

I think the re-branding of old models is getting confused with badge engineering here. The Fiesta/121 thing for example,is a badge engineering exercise. The Mitsubishi Lancer/Proton MPi thing on the other hand, is re-branding; i.e. an obsolete model reappears with minor cosmetic and mechanical changes and a new identity. It seems a little weird to me though that the two models often have an overlap in production.

..... also sold as a Holden Monaro in Australia and a Chevy SS in South Africa. These are absolutely nothing like the Holden Monaro. The Monaro was styled and manufactured in-house in Australia, no Brazilian rip-offs for us thankyou. For starters Holden started making the Monaro in 1968, one year before the first Opala. As much as the Opala is okay, the Monaro is much better proportioned in my opinion. I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned this one yet, the Niki 650. A humble but generally acceptable car, the Fiat 126, produced decades beyond it's expiry date in Communist Poland. They were actually importing them to Australia from about 1988ish-1992ish, at which time they were completely laughable compared to anything else on the market. Ancient Fiat design combined with Communist build quality to produce one of the worst cars to ever be sold in the Australian market. A friend of mine collects and restores them for some reason which I don't understand.
