given the calibre and range of vehicles in the US, do you not find it odd that a 17 year old boy aspires to a own toyota hilux ? (as nice as it is i mean) hmm product placement !

You can't buy happiness but you can buy cars and that's kind of the same thing.

YES YESYESYESYEEEEEEEE ugh I want it.... Although when I saw the engine, I had this little doubt in the back of my head... thats heavy... The FULL ALU Rover V8 is probably lighter than any engine that came in the hilux originally

Been a long time since any actual updates on this , I've had a lot going on and not really made any progress for ages , but.... As of this weekend , work has officially re-started. I bought a new tub for the old girl a while back as the one which is currently on the truck is a tad shabby to say the least! The new tub was sold to me as "mint" but upon arrival (500 miles door to door so tub was bought blind) it turned out to be only marginally better than the one I already have and to be honest I was very disappointed! Anyway , pointless complaining... on with the graft! Here is how the tub stood prior to starting work , absolutely riddled with fillers which has been used to plug up rust holes... complete and total bodge-fest! Knock a tad with a hammer and voila.... Both sides were exactly the same , also the lower tub panels are completely rotted out along the floor line which is going to be a pain to sort out... Also the fuel filler neck area was completely rotted out and missing , the filler flap should NOT open this way....

Anyway , on with the graft..... Ground back... Chopped out and plated.... Spot welds were applied gradually until panels were completely seam stitched , then a primer applied immediately after grinding back...

On with the other side of the tub.... Now because of the damaged fuel filler area , and also the placement of the original fuel filler in relation to the planned fibreglass arch extensions , I decided a little thinking outside of the box was required. First off , plate up the original filler... Next up , mark off and chop out rusty arch.... Next comes the good part...... Chop......

And this is where it becomes interesting.... Take one dead Suzuki GSXR srad..... And commence chopping.... Trial fit and adjust edges for a neat fit.... Fitted , welded in and primed... Test fit of cap , not bolted in as I seem to have lost the bolts (doh!).....

Sorry for the thread resurrection, but does anyone know what happened with this project? I was watching with interest a couple of years back!
