I notice one of my old cars for sale, and in a slightly down at heel state, and feel compelled to buy the old girl back again and breath life back into her. But something tells me you never go back... I sold that car for a reason, I don't recall what that was, but there was a good reason...
I liked it enough to own it once. Should I make that twice?
Make and model of car withheld as this isn't about if YOU like the car, just in general, is life too short to buy back your old cars...

I have in the past bought back 2 cars I previously owned, one was a joy, sorting it out first, felt good, then it was the same old pleasure of owning and driving, the other was not good, I spent lots of money sorting out some issues and when it was done I was annoyed with it, so it went.
SO............
basically, depends.
Helpful huh?

i nearly did the same with an old car of mine, decide against it and bought a Laguna mk2 as it was 10 years younger. which is a french pile of curse word. having my old car back would have cost me a fair few bob to restore it to its former glory, but at least i'd have had a car i'd have liked. Now i've spend lots of money on a car i hate....

I ve been guilty of this three times every time I done it I have quickly sold it again mind you I always have to many cars to play with. Depends how much love there was in the first place and why you sold it. If it cos you needed the cash and now you have spare do it if not just have a look at the pictures when you had it its far cheaper.

It would depend on whether the car would serve a useful need at this moment and also the reason for originally selling. If you can't remember the reason then it probably wasn't that important or may not have related to the car at all. If its because you found a copy of The Sun from 1991 sticking out of the chicken wire and filler making up the sill, and that sill still looks wobbly I probably wouldn't go back.

If its that FD with the V8 in then YES YES YES!
Otherwise, I guess it depends how you feel. If you fancy it again.... go for it. Maybe if youre asking this question you shouldnt?

I enjoyed owning it. I remember that. I remember being told I was a fool to sell it. I think it was because it was the only car I had on the road at the time and was not scratching a particular itch - which would now be scratched by the Pontiac.

Hmm my guess is the last mk3 cortina...
I've done it before, wasn't quite the same, but i was still happy with it (capri 2.0)

If it was the Cortina, wasn't it because it started bleeding rust through the seams and stonechips after winter and you were a bit bored of that by then? If so it's probably not the time to buy it, just in time for winter again

I've brought back twice, once with a Polo & the other time with a Bug. I'd owned both for a while before selling so knew something about both, it made sense to buy these rather than something I knew nothing about historywise. If you think the car in question is suited to your needs/desires or whatever then I don't see the harm. There's a couple I've sold over the years that I'd buy back in a heartbeat if offered.

crikey some of you remember more about my cars than I do.
Yeah, it had a few blebs showing when last I owned it and by 'eck its showing some more significant rust now poor ol thing.
The 'zam is just too uneconomical for me to daily right now. And it has no heater, and the HRW doesn't work.

Personally speaking, I'd say go for it. As long as you buy it with your head and not just your heart you should be fine. I recently turned down the option buy back my old MK2 Capri because, after much head scratching, I brought myself to the conclusion that it was hell of a lot worse than when I had it. It hurt to do so, especially as the car has since been scrapped, but even so, I'm confident I made the right choice.
Then of course there is the Zodiac which is simply the wisest move I've ever made. I owned it four years ago and never thought I'd have it back. Now that I do I'm constantly like a kid at Christmas. But again, I bought that back with my head, not my heart. I let my heart take over once it was on my driveway!
Do it my man, but do it for proper reasons, not just because you might feel a bit sorry for it.

The only one I ever bought back was my last winter smoker mk3 Golf. I sold it to a lad I work with last christmas, he needed a car as his Honda CBR wasn't as good as he'd hoped on snow He abandoned it on his mum & dad's drive when the tax ran out, and texted me at random in July to ask if I knew any scrap yards that will come and take the Golf away. At the prospect of a perfectly serviceable car getting fragged, I did the honourable thing and gave him £100 for it I'm putting it back through its MOT this week, and have grown rather attached to it - just persuading the wife I can run it through winter again and save the E28 from the salty roads
