I'm dissapointed by how quickly people went to immediate snark mode about something they didn't know anything about... great work folks, really good. I'm not surprised; knee-jerkism is all too rife on this board. No wonder I post less and less. And for all concerned, here's the Ford version, the Verona: God knows what you lot make of the Volkswagen 1500 (It's a Hillman/Chrysler/Talbot Avenger as well ;D)

This reminds me of a car featured in a mag about 10 years ago, someone had made a 2 door orion using doors from a 3dr Mk4 and moved the B post back, welding up the rear section of the rear doors..... Although as i write this i am wondering if it was indeed one of these after all. Whatever..... it looks uber cool, top postings!!!

Nice find! I'd love to bring on over to the UK, put Mk2 Orion trim on it and confuse the hell out of people at shows! Either that or stick an Audi 5-pot in it for the ultimate intercontinental parts-bin win. ;D

I guess, rather than making a joke about the large size of the Ford and VW scenes in this country and how you could potentially take this car to a lot of shows (you see? Joke? Maybe I should have added some smiley faces for clarity...), I should say:
I think it looks pretty cool, when my brain gets around the confusion of a really VW grill, let alone the badge, on an Orion. There should be more two door saloons, as well as 3 door estates. I love cars like this, South African Ford Bantams, etc, or US Federal-spec models that are familiar but slightly weird. It's like watching A Beautiful Mind and realising it's got the girl from Labyrinth in it...

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

wow thats really cool! Such an odd combination but its got elements of VW to the rear window (as previously pointed out), sierra rear lights, mk4 front. So much to take in, crazy fusion of two automotive powerhouses.
But the point is whatever it is badged as, it's on sweet wheels, has required slammage and is different. Politics schmolotics is what I say.
Now where can i get one......

I see your Apollo and raise you: A Ford Versailles (VW Santana) A Ford Royale (Vw Quantum) A VW pointer newer pointer (looks like they raider the Ford associates parts bin.....Mazda 323 headlights?? ) all under the Autolatina combination. * Ford Verona / Volkswagen Apollo * Ford Escort / Volkswagen Pointer * Ford Orion / Volkswagen Logus * Volkswagen Santana / Ford Galaxy/Versailles * Volkswagen Quantum / Ford Royale with help from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autolatina

I love that pointer pickup, but that Opala?! Whhaaa mama! It's got all the right muscle-car styling cues, real purpose, but looks to be sensibly sized. I need one! As for the OP, a VW Apollo dressed to look like an Orion, with it's VW badges and a period VW motor. You know, something sensible like a G60 would be nice

I'm dissapointed by how quickly people went to immediate snark mode about something they didn't know anything about... great work folks, really good. On a proper note. Very cool looking car... Also loving that rear window line, That itself would make me lose the vw badge just to confuse it even more haha..

Brilliant thread this! I love these oddities and unconventional configurations of cars we got - early Saab 900 Estate, etc.
Wasn't there a weird notchback version of the Corsa C?

I for one genuinly thought this was a Ford that someone had stuck a Veedub badge onto......i was wrong and except it for what it is It is, VW did it! I think it's unbalanced; the back is too stubby; shame, a 2-door Orion (with a normal onion back end and window line) would have looked

That's about right! Taking one Real to be worth ~£0.39 Hold on, I think I've worked out why no-one imports Brazilian motors to the UK...

Yeah I had a quick look round. Cheapest I could find was 5900Br for a 1991 model, which is about £2200 quid. Did they get em in Portugal?
