I had a ball ache with insurance, I took a payout I'm still waiting for, its semi repaired, I'm sick of it getting damaged so I'm just going to allow it to be rat look, that's clearly how the force wants it. One issue that was actually my fault, I got annoyed with a Prius Taxi, and overtook it. through a set of traffic lights. At about 80. I never noticed before how steep the dip is through the crossroads, and I got some air, quite a lot actually, when I eventually landed it grounded out. Now on a ChinaTial (and some EBC reds) I did the gearbox conversion, I just could not put up with the G31. Milton Keynes is made of roundabouts, everyone drives leased finance German diesels and they come at you like bullets, having a car that does not want to engage 1st and sometimes 2nd is risking life, you really need a car that will get out of the way quick, not grind and then roll away in 2nd in lag. Its the worst and biggest job to do this conversion (again) but its now running an S2 gearbox. I haven't tried it yet because its Friday the 13th, this is BTR and I'm not that naïve.

Are you in Milton Keynes then? We're moving down to Northampton on Wednesday. Good to have some fellow traumatised Porsche owners nearby.

I am in a similar boat to you Sumpcracker. It was friday the 13th and i was kind of glad my car wasnt at home. Go try it today. I bet she will reward you. The S2 gearbox should make it easier to drive.
BTW: Do they still hold the Husbourne crawley porsche auto jumble?

Haha, very true. Although my daily is a German TDi but old and not leased...... I'll keep a look out and try and avoid my car becoming possessed and arrowing in the direction of random Porsches.
If you need a hand any time I have a really good selection of hammers.

I know the feeling! Mine won't go into 1st without a double declutch (and maybe not even then if rolling). Second is quite high and you can defeat the synchros if you rush it. Don't know where your boost kicks in, but it's 3000 revs on mine and so if you drive around in second you crawl around the place at a snail's pace until everyone else slows down, at which point you take off! Will the S2 box take the power you're putting through it, or are you fearing it will blow up again? Cheers Duncan

Well, that change pretty fast! Great to hear about the plans to get the power out of the car. It certainly should shift with that amount of power! Fingers are crossed that it stays more reliable than the Escort did with such an increase in power! Then again, if Mark Koeberle can do it I'm sure you can as well . Good to see it being up specced as always but I'd consider you to be a brave man putting EBCs on ; I've normally found them wibblepoo on most cars, even their Reg90 'OE' pads! Are you still running S2 brakes on this or are you on the Monoblocks now? FWIW, my new steed seemed to have got affected by Friday 13th, albeit not quite as bad!

duncanmartin- The S2 gearbox is the same as a turbo box, just with a shorter final drive, lots of guys in the us run them on 400hp 944s. As long as its not launched hard there should be no issue. Its much more lively than a Turbo box, common swap.
It drives really well, soft over the bumps and nice that it goes into gear now, nice quiet drive. I am waiting for a stiffer spring for the new wastegate as it can only make 1.0bar with this one, very slow.
Red stuff pads are not great, a waste of £80 tbh but a bit better than stock and i am not paying £160 for the Ferodo's (they are worth it as they are great) as I have done between £1500 and 2k on it already.
It needs paint, ive had enough. I should have the w/g spring tomorrow, i will take it for a dyno and then do an ebay advert. Mechanically sorted, very fast, mint interior, needs paint. I wont be buying it back again, its burned me this time, with buying it back and fixing everything it stands me at about 10k in the last 2 months! and the body is in worse condition than when I started...
PM to Buy it, ideal turnaround for a painter.

Actually I will just do a for sale here and in the classifieds, and then copy to Ebay.
1986 Porsche 944 Lux Turbo.
I built this car because when I looked for a 944 Turbo they were overpriced, tired and in standard form- no faster than a modern TDI. Many need sills, or have been previously bodged, smokey old engines showing 30 years of abuse. Great if you are only interested in investment potential, but if you are actually interested in driving and fun, you need this one.
This is not a Turbo copy, but my vision of how the car should have been in the first place, I was also a little disappointed as a child that Ruf didn't sort the 944, Which is why this car has an N/A front, Ruf badge and tacho as well as the BTR plate. This car is a fully rebuilt fresh, fast and ready to use as well as looking the part.
Built from a rust free shell in the best colour, all period mods, 80s cool with a modern bite, used daily, smooth suspension, stays cool, drives like a standard car off boost pleasure to use, nice and quiet - past 4000 rpm it comes to life and tries to kill you. I have been using it for 6 years, not much will give this amount of fun at this cost.
Engine- Built from an unscored block 3000 miles ago , new rings, Mahle pistons, RARST forged rods, new big end bearings, cross drilled crank, n/a, 951 polished head given light skim and new valve seals , n/a camshaft, k27/Borwarner hybrid turbo (Mercedes truck), 38mm external wastegate with screamer pipe, modified downpipe, 55lb injectors, Walbro 255 fuel pump, 3.0bar fpr, front mount intercooler, ported AFM, Lindsey custom Map, adjustable boost running 1.6 bar to redline, 1986 loom and ECUs so no cat/lamda..and some things I have forgotten...
Transmission- Turbo S/930 clutch with Turbo driveshafts, 944 S2 AOS gearbox, nice tight linkage. (gearbox oil changed today)
Suspension- MO30 KONI adjustable with the front coilovers, 30mm front roll bar, 18mm rear roll bar, steel lower arms, turbo torsion bars.
Brakes- Porsche Brembo 4 pot front and rear, new front discs and red stuff pads.
Interior- 964 scripted Recaro sports seats (no wear as sourced from a LHD) and matching rear lower seat. Clubsport centre console, rear cage with bolt in diagonal bar, MOMO Cavallino steering wheel, 180mph speedo, 80s Alpine head unit, matching boost gauge. Original Porsche mats and clips, the interior is about the best you will find.
Body- Rust free original black non metallic shell. 931 bonnet (with gas struts) genuine turbo rear valance, genuine RUF script on rear, front modified to expose intercooler, non foglight front valance, 968 door rubbers, Porsche script door handles, the body is mostly original and it needs paint in places.
All electrics work, sunroof, boot release, clock!, bonnet light ect.. car has the usual power steering, central locking, elec windows... 11 months MOT, 128000miles, lots of history. I will try and get a dyno done this week should be over well 400hp.
Good Points- All of the above^ Cheapest Turbod 944 you will find. Scares V10 R8s Looks cool.
Bad points- Will try to kill you in the wet. Needs paintwork in places. owner can be an curse word when you make low offers.

I can understand why you are doing this, it must be pretty hard to have a card that you have put so much time, effort and money into that it still causes you grief.
You have built a very good turbo, to me that fact it isnt originally a turbo is of no consequence. Good luck with the sale and getting the money you deserve for it.

Its fantastic now, well sorted, hence the last £2000. I don't really want to sell it, but I decided to do a 1 month road trip in July, and Emilia would rather not do it in this car, so I'm replacing it with a Scirocco TDI. (last year I bought a z4 Coupe for the same but the small cabin was an issue)
The last big drive I had in it it was fantastic, pops and flames into bends, perfect oversteer on the way out, savage performance, id never get this joy from a Short Quattro or an RS2, think of this as a low budget F40.

Its much more lively than a Turbo box, common swap. Makes sense, and a lot more sensible than a 931 dogleg box. It's a glorious car, and I hope the next owner treats it right and has some fun with it. You have done right by it buying it back and sorting it out, even if it is going needing paint - hopefully you can have no regrets and move on to something equally cool. What are you gonna do as your next project? I don't imagine that a Scirocco TDi will inspire such creativity and devotion! Cheers Duncan

Yes, need to add pics tho.
I was working on it all day changing boost springs ect trying to set the new WG up as well as the old one, I coulnt get it to sweetly pull equally in 3rd 4th 5th like before with 1.6 bar..
as I am selling it it seemed an idea to run less anyway so its about 1.2 1.3 now, not as fast but defo will be reliable and probably still over 350hp.

Having followed this thread closely and having just bought my first 944 and Porsche for that matter I had to have a search for it.
I find it strange. It is by a country mile the best 944 in the results and it is at such a reasonable figure in comparison to what else is on there.
As of today, I honestly can not imagine seeing a better 944. Really can't.
