Today, a tidy up of the area which has been tapped flat and smoothed and a re route of the loom, it looks decent and in this picture you can see the difference in intercoolers (old pic is 4 years ago) Here you can se the style I'm going for, a proper BTR 911.

Great to see this back here again. Your thread was also inspiration for me buying a 944 along with a set of Azevs. Don't go complaining about the car this time though You'll only curse word yourself off and want to sell it again. Look at it through rose tinted glasses

That is flattery^ Anyway, I think its known here that I am a mood swing king, one of those arty people who are up and down, maybe a little eccentric. I love and hate the car at the same time. On a downer note CHECK THIS OUT! The chap who was looking after BTR fitted an air filter (a good thing I guess) when he fitted it he also fitted a breather on the front of the turbo like a factory car has - I did tell him you cannot do that on high boost 944s as the can suck up their own oil and blow it out.. He did it anyway, and obviously it smoked... He thought this was because of the turbo, so he did a mod to restrict the oil supply to it.... I just removed the recently rebuilt (seized) turbo- and found the restrictor may not have had the required precision it needed. kurwa cholery!

She went a bit dry. The scores on the bearings and shaft don't look so bad in this picture. I had a new bearing kit already, Emilia felt it was a picture moment, or just that it was funny that BTR was in bits again. I bought a new shaft and turbine, I had the compressor wheel already. Thanks to overnight parts from Blackpool not Japan I have a Turbocharger again. Yes, i painted over the marine paint which had runs in it - i don't care. This is a new housing as the other was scored. (The individual parts were balanced already, most turbos i have re built are done this way, none had any problems)

Looking gorgeous with the intercooler blended in like that. The oil restrictor reminds me of the banjo filters I took out of my Legacy GT...brutal for blocking and starving the turbo (and the mains from the pressure drop) of oil.
Any idea how the previous owner managed to get the wing paint looking that bad? I don't even know how someone could manage it.

I don't know, I think he may have put hammerite and thinners in the gun or something like that, as its not the same black. Its lighter Anyway, it looked like this for a few days- It took an age to get flat with a DA- And today it got a topcoat. Id like to do it again but this looks ok until the weather is warm enough to get a good finish..

Wow - The paint really looked disgusting! What in the world did he use in the gun? It almost looks like the cracked glass fibre bits on my Hazard Streaker! It already looks so much better again. Maybe yours is not restored to every nut and bolt, but when it drives it will be so much quicker! Love the big intercooler and the almost invisble look! What is the status of the Turbo?

Thanks Volks, I have no idea what he used. Since buying the car back- Battery, Headlight motor, 2 Front tyres, Intercooler and pipework, Rebuilt turbo, MOT, rebuilt wastegate with new spring. re balanced map. Paint wing. Catch tank. Also did a boost leak test which was not possible with the old leaking intercooler. I found some leaks on vacuum pipes and TB gasket which were fixed, slight leak on TB spindle which I made better but not air tight. Now it drives better than it ever has, it is still a bit scruffy round the edges, but its a daily car not a show piece. It was more responsive after the recent work to the point the wheelspin was annoying. This is part of the reason for adjusting the map, changing the wastegate spring (smoother delivery) and I also softened the rear shocks and dropped the rear tyre pressure a tad. The wheelspin is now minor and is ltd to 2nd gear, very slight in 3rd, rather than using both sides of the road when you put the power on. The boost pipes and inlet manifold stay cold, and it makes a bit more boost at night/cold air. The turbo is more progressive, the boost increases all the way to the rev limiter. Chapter 2- was going to be about the G31 getrag gearbox, changing to a 944 S2 box/torque tube ect.. After adjusting the clutch and linkage, it is better, i'm thinking to change the oil as i'm sure it has the wrong type in it and see how it feels. Because, in reality if I could get this dogleg box just a bit nicer id put up with it as it is much stronger than the Turbo/S2 gearbox and the ratios are great. It will never be as smooth as the s2 box however, maybe not smashing diffs is more important, especially if I go to the next stage of tune heading for 500hp. Out again, looking understated and innocent, just a classic 944 with some period wheels. Not quite a sleeper but close.

I will just add that when I started this project what I wanted was something old and looks retrocool also fast by modern standards with handling and brakes to match. BUT also a car that is nice to drive and could be used as a daily car, happy in traffic and long journeys. I feel its there now, you can drive round all day under about 4000rpm and you would never know it wasn't a standard 944, power feels like an N/A and its quiet, idles ect infact my girlfriend could easily use it.. open the taps and it becomes a different car with loud wastegate, hard squat and plenty power.
If the gearbox oil makes a difference, I will fit bigger front brakes and id say its about finished for now.

Thanks for the comments.
Unfortunately about an hour after I posted the above, I was driving to the city to get a birthday present for Mrs Sumpcracker and a car decided to change lanes on a dual carrigway in the space I was in and damaged the drivers side.
The whole side needs panel work and paint, I just cant believe it was on the road perfect for under 12 hours. Actually this is BTR, I can believe it.
Anyway looks to be a write off, I had it inspected I'm waiting for the low offer to come from her insurance.
