Well, some big plans are in the pipeline eh? CR Turbos (from what I have seen on the Scrote and other cars) seem to know how to refurb a Turbo even if it is at a cost. Your idea of going for M030 Calipers is a wise one and oddly enough is what Paul Anderson uses on his 928 racer, with better pads. The pads and discs on my Big Blacks were horrifically priced for anything decent, no matter how hard I looked (Porsche oddly enough were the cheapest, not that £180 a disc is particularly cheap!). Even the pads took some searching to get something right with regards to the quality and pricing . I see that T3rra's ECU setup (from Tom Barker) did not appeal to you? Surely that would have kept things looking 80sish beneath the bonnet . How does the delivery of the Turbo compared to the previous one? The compressor certainly looks like a beast!

Not really big plans Chas, It just makes sense to go Big turbo/injectors/cooler/exhaust & downpipe/ and some sort of maf/map as this is how most are running 400+hp in the US.
Hardest part is the turbo, which is done. (CR did a good job, some machining out of the exh housing to accept the new turbine ect) Now in the process of making the exhaust.
Terrys ECU set up from Tom is great, his car runs really well, like factory. Its neat too, only thing is the cost and then the cost of the mapping. May happen further down the road..
The standard exhaust and the AFM (though the AFM ported and on a straight 4"-3" pipe with a trumpet) are the things holding it back at the moment, it spools completely different, pulls much harder than before.
I'm not in a hurry as I have 6 months to get it done.
BTW when I picked up the injectors, I found your Stag..

To be fair given the issues it gave me towards the end (ableit minor to most people) it went to the right place. Was it on the ramp or is it running again? As always it is great to see someone doing their homework on the build, but I'd expect nothing less of a man like yourself .

Glad to see you still have the car and still making progress, I just had a look on the other site but this has more info etc on your plans and progress.
I got to the point around march and had just had enough, sold all 18 cars I owned and got rid of my workshop and parts I had stored and with the exception of a few rs4/6 bits and a pair of recaro's thats it, i've not got any car bits and I don't even live in the uk anymore .... I am in the process of becoming a citizen in america.
The want/need for a 944 is still strong and I have been looking, the unfortunate thing is the prices have jumped since I first started the process to move here, last year I could have got a late turbo with decent interior from a state that doesn't suffer rust for around $2k, now thats more like 8k. Time will tell what I end up with...

My progress has been like this-
Fitted the new engine, Turbo failed
Fitted new Turbo, oil pressure relief failed and boost pipe fail along with other things..
Fixed boost pipe and oil relief, while I was there the axle stand "moved itself" and crushed fuel line..
Fitted new fuel line...
Test drove, it drove well everything working and correct...nice..
Then today it minced the gearbox. (and I doubt I will be able to find another) I pushed it into the garage, I am not up for converting it back to normal style gearbox, and parts are not available for the Getrag box.
Unsure what to do at the mo, quite curse word off with it again, never done so much work on a car for so little return.

Turbo AOR 'box? . Admitedly they are pricey and not always with a healthy LSD, but it certainly helped mine feel lovely from the rear even, even from the S2 with an 80BHP downfall. It is a real shame to hear about the car going up in smoke once more, especially with all of the hard work it has had done!

I completely know how you feel. Just finished converting mine to a turbo and had no end of problems even with buying brand new parts. I'm running one of Tom's (Augment Automotive) turbos and ECUs with a MAP set up. I've not been in a turbo before but I bought a known good S2 gearbox and bought a Quaife LSD for it. So far that end feels fantastic.
Hopefully you wait it out for more motivation. This is a car that has inspired a lot of my build.

I have been following yours ^
Now you also know what a ball ache these cars are!
Great car! I went in Terrys with Toms ECU set up, I was impressed with how well it ran.
That LSD must have cost! I was trying a map sensor set up when I smashed the gearbox, its poss the extra poke is why it let go.

If I am honest, I can appreciate where you are coming from and it is nice to simply divert one's efforts to one problem car . How much power than the Snailshell box handle or has no-one found out yet? Surely you must be producing around 350BHP with a fair whack of torque!

Cheers, I've not been in Terry's but he's the one who got me on to Tom. I've not experienced a standard Turbo but mine certainly is a lot smoother than the old engine. LSD was a fair whack but it made sense at the time. It's pretty hard to find a reasonably priced gearbox with an LSD or one that hasn't been to the moon and back that can handle the turbo as I'm sure you know. Ah that would probably not have helped things!

The Gearbox was an issue for me, the N/A box's would obviously fail from time to time, they are cheap enough to replace, but its never good being at the side of the road with a broken diff.
The Turbo gearbox is very long geared, I drive Turbos every week at work and was sure I didn't want that box, the S2 was the best option, thought it still may break.
Dave offered me the dogleg/Getrag which had the right gearing and the strongest components, so it made sense.. and I thought it would never break, I still don't know why it did, but as there is no stronger option I have replaced it with the same.
The car will be done for mid January I hope.

I'm glad to hear you are sorting it! I'm also happy to hear how long geared the Turbo box is! That was the biggest thing that put me off of it. When your car is finished and mine has been mapped and sorted I'd love to meet up seeing as I'm not far from MK if you were up for it?

You know things...
Well after spending a fortune and only doing about 6 miles in it... I got it about finished and erm.. swapped it for more work in the shape of an old Datsun.
I'm rather sad, but relieved at the same time. Hardest decision I have ever made.
I will upload pics of it in its last guise later.
Its gone to a friend, who lives 5 minutes walk from my house, and yes I have 1st refusal if ever he wants rid. He was good enough to take it with no tax, no MOT and a broken gearbox too.
Anyway, look out for a new thread.

Make that two people . I can appreciate why you got rid of the Porsche (as sad as I am to see it leave the fold). Having a problem car which keeps consuming alot of time and cash soon can become quite depressing! Sometimes it can be good to simply get rid and start afresh with renewed vigour on another project. So, where are the shots of this Datsun? Just how iff is it? I look forward to seeing what you do with it .

Wow, you finally moved it on. Must have been a tough decision alright. I love 240Z's though but will miss reading about it here.
