Well, I am sure some of you have noticed that I have been a bit quiet the last 6-8 weeks.
Got married 6th August, moved 2 houses into one the 3/4 September..... YES, we have moved into our new "Dream Home" also known as "Number 9". It took 13 months from the time we agreed to buy the house, The actual exchange and completion was 5 weeks late, which was a blessing in disguise as my brother was here for 25days,and helped massively, along with the Transit and a trailer really earning their keep.
The week after moving into the new house and taking on a £230k mortgage , the company I have been with the last 14 years announced some Redundancies..... So at end of October I am unemployed..... Perfect.
Does mean I now have to look for another job, but Hey-Ho.... there you go.
However, none of this has got in the way of my Skip and treasure hunting trips.
The last few big ones were the Lawnmower (£250 item) Pink Scooter (£280 item) and more recently some other items which I will post in a moment.
Lawnmower is prfect for the new place as I did not have a mower.
Scooter as seen at the Gathering.....
Two weeks ago I popped into my favourite Recycle and Re-Use tip again, looking for an adult sized bicycle for Nicola's son Tom to use when we go walking or riding on the farm and found this Bosch 2000Watt chipper.
I brought it home and plugged in, OOOPPPSS !! Tripped out the power twice, so clearly not working as it should. However, looking almost brand new, I thought a bit of investigating would not go amis so on the Saturday mrning armed with a large screwdriver, small crowbar and a Torx set, I proceeded to partially dismantle, and then dislodge a rather large bit of wood from its insides, and 10 minutes later had a working Chipper which has to be worth up to £150 looking at what is in the shops, our new garden will produce enough growth to make it worth stashing in a corner somewhere.
Result !!
I am sure some of you remember the size of the propperty and the fact that there is a large deck at the rear of the house.
So last week again looking for a bicycle for Tom, I got no joy, but did see this Chimnea in the skip, seemed pretty much unused, so into the car, and home. I had it sanded down, cleaned and spraypainted with high heat black before Nicola got home...... and a Hero was born, as she used to have one that self destructed, and wanted one again for this house, but we could not afford to spend the money on one.
Pics.....
Onto the back seat.
Done, paint still drying.
This week Thursday I popped in again hoping for a bicycle and did not get lucky, but found another item we like and wanted, but was not preparred to buy...... a cast iron garden bench, well, at least the frame, with the wood broken out of it, so I asked the guys if anyone had put it aside, and was told no, and that I could have it, so into the car it went.
Last week Sunday we popped into our local Co-op for some bacon after the bootfair round and while Nicola fetched the bacon, I spotted a large builders skip...... next up beggars belief, I found 3 x 3 meter lengths and another long piece of White American Oak skirting boards at 150mm wide, and some door frame timber of the same, NEW and UNUSED. These I stored in the garage loft knowing they would find a use some time...... with the bench bits less than a week later, the time had come to use them. At around £10/meterI had just picked up £100's worth of timber before it became landfill.
Why ?
Had to laminate a strip to get enough thick wood for the backrest.
Last job to do is to give it about 3 coats of varnish.
More updates as the rubbish comes in.
