thats a raleigh twenty/shopper - unfortunately all that paint will be hiding is some cool 70s paint colour.
they're easy to work on though and pretty tidy - as well as trendy right now

Found in a skip over in Hackney area today. Will be almost perfect for when I sit alongside the truck sanding..... wheeled one would be better. Put it on the table out on the deck, turned around and Harley was straight on it.  |

 Free cycle. Three sipped Raleigh Shopper bike. Hammerstein painted, so no idea what that hides. Needs front tube/tyre/ puncture repair. Then hopefully back on track. I'm liking your screwdriver collection |

No pics, but I went around to a fabricators around the corner for work seeking an off-cut to make the hitch mount for my trailer. The guy ended up finding a piece of galv steel about 2m long, 30cm wide and gave me the whole thing. Even chopped it up into 600mm increments using their guillotine!

Tried to take an afterburner Con-Di nozzle petal home from work as it's a beautiful piece of superformed titanium and it was scrap. Got told off and had to give it back to Rolls Royce  |

I assumed it went in general scrap because it had no serial number on it. Slight sense of humour failure on the side of Rolls but no harm and indeed no foul. |

There's very tight control on aircraft parts, so faulty or scrap parts don't end up in the air, all parts have to be traceable, so parts with no numbers are a nightmare, all parts I make have to be marked with
Part number
Order number
Date
tail number
And my qa number
And all that is on a part with lots of numbers already.
Have seen parts where the paperwork is heavier than the item.
Normally when a part is scrapped it has to be seriously mangled to ensure it cannot be reused

As mentioned above, offer to pay for stuff, or tell them what you plan to do with it.
I find showing progress pics or going back to show what they helped you build opens doors (well, gates) as well.

Being busy with creating the spray booth inside the garage, I have thought of a gazebo on front of it to do most of the dirty dusty filler work.
Yesterday FREECYCLE partially delivered with the ad copied and pasted below........
Scaffolding pipes and fittings to:
BUILD A TEMPORARY CARPORT IN FRONT OF GARAGE.
" I have some scaffolding bits which used to be put together to form a yacht cradle - they supported a 30ft yacht ashore during its winter maintenance. Those days are long gone and the scaffolding needs to go.
It comprises about 20 poles, roughly speaking:
6 off 4m long
6 off 2m long
6 off 1-1.5m long
few other odds and ends
Plus a boxful of clamps to hold it all together, and drawings / photos if anyone wants to use it as a boat cradle for something 20-30 ft long!
There are a load of wooden blocks used to level it and 6 support pads to rest against the hull of the boat.
Anyone welcome to take away whether as boat cradle, scaffolding components or scrap. "
Last night Martin and I went down to Gillingham in his Mondeo ST Estate with roof bars fitted and my Focus to collect all the pipework and fittings.
Took it all home and unloaded, followed by a cuppa tea made by Nicola and Martin delivering Christmas prezzies. One of which he insisted I open there.
Nice big box, not too heavy......hmmmmm??
What could it be??
Industrial ear plugs....... For our trip to the USA next year? His protection or mine?

Great thread. Its just kept me entertained for hours and I feel so guilty I've not been in the garage for weeks I'm going in for a couple of days from tomorrow..
If those cf wheels are 5x120 you may get some result offering them as manta 400 wheels

On my way home this morning, I saw a pile of 4 large shelf brackets and a couple of small ones laying on top of a washing machine that had obviously been put out for the scrap man, so I pulled over and went and knocked on the door in my garage overalls and asked the lady if I could have them, she seemed pleased that I had actually came and asked for them and said yes of course.
So that was an easy £20.00 in my pocket as far as I am concerned.
Shelf brackets are always worth having.
They will go straight into my study to replace the home made ones that support a whole wall full of DVD' ( yes, we still have them)

Always looking at re-purposing stuff I see. Saw this skip today. On closer inspection it yielded a bunch of large heavy duty extruded plastic "trays" which I immediately saw as perfect receptacles for the parts that I strip off the truck, or even in the garage loft as tidy storage. They have some extruded pieces inside with Velcro straps that seem to be set with double sided tape, not yet investigated fully. Anyway, I feel another big waste if not scooped up......  Size perspective.  Saw this somewhere before, and just rediscovered it again today, I do hope that someone helps her realise more than the declared value, should I bite the bullet.  |

Good find Rian - They will come in very handy no doubt! Also, I completed my very 1st home project today - inspired 100% by you taking things you don't need and turning them into something you do. I basically turned an old bedside drawer chest into a raised 'Daybed' for our cats Callie & Fudge. (We are massive cat lovers) Next project is to turn some old MDF I have into a cat climbing/fun frame for them.  |

Aaaaahhhh well, then you are in the right company, we have three rescue cats, Harley being the one most people know. Nicola's daughter, Hannah turned an old 70's suitcase into a daybed/night bed for her two rescue kittens too. There are so many ways to turn stuff creatively into something useful. But many people don't care to try see it, and the resultant change in your pocket. |
