I've started a new thread on this as the old one was completely out of date (hope mods don't mind).
Model: Vauxhall Astra GSi16v
Year: 1991
Mileage: 135000
Tax: December 2010
MOT: June 29th 2011
Location: The Wirral
Price: £900 ovno
Contact details:
I've owned this car since 2004, having bought it and drove from Stevange - it has been left standard internally and externally. I put Calibra Turbo front struts and Astra Coupe Turbo rear hubs and put Calibra Turbo 16" five stud wheels on it. The C20XE went in the summer about five days after getting it MOT'd (oil starvation due to pick up pipe departure), and I immediately replaced with a C25XE from a Cavalier V6 (70k miles on it).
I shall note the bad bits first:
* The car has dents and scratches, there are three small, slight dents on the bonnet, there's also a strange, slight mismatch of paint on the front of the bonnet thanks to the previous owner - not noticable,
* The arches were replaced in 2005 by myself. I was never happy with the paint, so I redid both rear arches in the summer, and while it looks ace, I'm no pro and it is not immaculately flat,
* There's a crack in the corner of the dashboard on the driver's side when I took it out to change the ECU - I forgot to take the last bolt out and bent it a bit,
* Bumpers and grille are missing clips, doesn't make a difference cosmetically,
* I removed the boot, which was a unbelievably stuck on one of the mounts, but realised I'd not taken the pin out, and bent the hinge - the boot closes fine but the shutline is out.
* The driver's seat bolster has JUST gone (amazingly), so I swapped the seats around to prevent it going any further.
The car is mechanically and structurally fine, and apart from forgetting to remove bolts, there's nothing wrong with it. The car is rapid, there's no traction with pedal to the metal in 1st and 2nd, the engine sounds amazing and is much quicker than the C20XE but uses the same petrol (I only do 'urban' driving now and do 30mpg). I shelled out quite a bit two years ago on shock absorbers, lower arms, bushes, ball joints, and new brakes, and have always kept on top of servicing. It corners brilliantly with new stuff, and handling is predictable.
I get comments on the car quite a bit, and rather frustratingly, had a few people in petrol stations and even knocking on my door asking if it was for sale prior to putting it up for sale. There aren't many of these about anymore, I think they're the nicest looking hot hatches from the 90's, and are unfairly under-rated against the other more popular hatchbacks.
The interior is clean and tidy, it's got the original stereo and speakers and parcel shelf is complete. Electric windows, heated mirrors and sunroof as standard. The car polishes up well, it isn't flame pink. It passed the last MOT with advisory on brake pipes, which have a few years left in them. If there's any rust, it's literally a few spots of surface rust. These cars only rust on the rear arches. Even badly maintained cars don't suffer from it.
There are a few chips on the door/bonnet edges which I'll fill in. Also ABS is playing up, which I'll fix before sale. Also, the front wings and bonnet aren't lined up as I took them off when I changed the engine. I'll re-align these as well, to be honest, I just haven't found the 'arsed-ness' to do it.
I need this gone as I work freelance (home working), and no longer use a car everyday as I prefer to walk/ride everywhere.
I welcome swaps and offers!
