you need something like what i use ally media and its very abrasive (good for keying up meterials but not the best at stripping paint)
if you want to strip off paint you will need plastic media (great at stripping paint but not much else really)
glass is for really giving a nice finish to the metals like ally it looks the nuts after being glass blasted
before you put any thing in to blast make sure it is properly clean as grease and dirt will trash the blaster just use a parts cleaner or a steam cleaner
make sure you have a good stock of new glass/plastic sheets as after only a few uses it can get quite hard to se inot the blaster
also make sure you have 2 or 3 nozzel ends (might be a pinky colour on your one ) a few weeks a go i fitted a new one and with in 3 hors of solid blasting i had worn through it compleatly
