The following is a Public Service Announcement for all Hunter owners Not something I normally do but I just noticed seller jagboy4.2 has a NOS steel wing for sale on that auction website, see item 232258136998 , the auction still has a couple of days left. Price looks high to me but no harm in making an offer (it took me long time to find a NOS pair for mine, I ended up buying 2 from different places and paying under £100 for the pair + LOTS of time & petrol to collect) ^ Nothing to do with me, hope it helps, etc etc... ps. If anyone needs a set of matching doors let me know

Today was a spare day (yesterday was spent chasing a few folk to make descisions, and getting "Manyana" type replies from most of them...) so it seemed a good idea to go play at the beach I remembered the camera this time, so have a no-frills-barred closeup of a rather nice wood rim steering wheel I fitted last month (after decades in the back of the garage Shame I've now decided I prefer the other 'wheel, so the wood one has been added to the sales thread. Ho hum!

I had a trip into town today, parked in the town center carpark as usual. When I got back to the car I had an interesting chat with the Concierge* from the local shopping mall who was looking around my car. Apparently the security staff patrolling the carpark had "concerns" that the car looked "suspicious" so had run some checks. Once they found it had tax, insurance, mot, and the parking ticked hadn't run out - they decided not to escalate it. That's nice of them I had a chat to the bloke, I wish I'd got more details from him but he told me "cars like mine" (45 year old estate cars with boxes in the boot - covered with a blanket ) are exactly the type of vehicles they are trained to watch out as terrorists "often" use them Things I'm puzzled / concerned by : If you were planning to do something illegal, would you choose a 45 year old motor that gets lots of attention or a 10 year old 4x4 / estate with blacked out windows (there were a few motors like that around the carpark ) Is it really that unusual to see an estate car with boxes in the boot. Why else would you buy one?? Police advice is to "don't leave valuables on display - cover with a blanket if neccesary" - but security regard this as suspicious? If the security training manual shows lots of Hillman Hunters driven by bad guys, it must have been printed around 1979. Time to update their training course? I honestly think if the parking ticket had expired (or had fallen off the dashboard) they would have called the bomb disposal team and requested a controlled explosion. Finally, the concierge chap who was concerned was wearing a uniform including a top hat, bright red frock coat and tails. Is he really the best person to decide what is "normal" ?? Does anyone remember the "Not the 9 o'clock news - Constable Savage sketch" ? If I disappear off the forum for a few weeks, I'd appreciate if one of our local forum members could check with the local police to make sure I'm not locked up in their cells "as a precaution". Scary days!

Scary days indeed. My cars always look suspicious, usually just by being on the road, lol. At least they didn't cause any damage to it

"It never rains but it pours" is something I've heard a lot over the years. In my case, the rain is pouring into the boot when all the doors are shut ! The rain channel ends just above a coverplate on the rear screen pillar. The coverplate should be held tight with a pop rivit but it's worked loose so the water happily runs off the channel - down behind the cover panel - and drips out of the airvent inside the car Typical that I noticed the leak 2 days after I took all my "I'll never need that again" junk to the tip, including a few part used tubes of black sealer On a positive note, I now know why the boot floor is sometime wet.

I think I'd be mocking the staff at that car park quite savagely TBH.
I bet they were told to look out for 'old estate cars' (meaning 1990s) except the old boys doing security are of an older generation and still consider 90s stuff basically new. If anything, would be worth a letter in the right direction to see if you could get them properly trained!
Glad to see this still rolling along, I hope to join in the old estate car fun soon.

The latest news in no particular order : I moved to Corbridgec(Oop North, mid-way between Newcastle & Carlisle) about 3 weeks ago. Kettles normally on - visitors welcome if I'm at home So far the village has had a 3-day beer festival and a midsummer village fair, there's classic car show this weekend, and I just got tickets for a music festival walking distance from my house. What's not to like? Details for the car show retrorides.proboards.com/thread/198169/corbridge-north-east-show-july?page=1&scrollTo=2328793Spotted some "interesting" neighbours around here I need to learn how to use my camera or get something better with a telephoto lens i.imgur.com/86l29Hb.jpgI'm just back from a trip visiting friends in North Wales, lots of miles with no problems and some great driving around Alston and Hartside pass (a slow 10 mile climb to the top of the Pennines - followed by a 15 mile descent on twisty country roads). Proper old-school fun in a low powered car with well sorted brakes/tyres/suspension Once again the car managed to surprise a few folk

The following is a *another* Public Service Announcement for all Hunter owners Seller bobsyourfurkin has NOS panels (steel wing + door + doorskin) for sale on that auction website, all starting at 99p eg item 302382525738 , the auction still has more than a week left. They might work out as bargains for someone depending what the final price is and what he has reserve set at. Remember : "Shy bairns get nowt" (for Southerners & other non-civilised folk, this roughtly translates as "you'll never know unless you ask" ) ^ Nothing to do with me, hope it helps, etc etc... In other news, I might be spending a few days at Alston soon (possibly moving there full time from Septmeber), if anyone around that area has any words of wisdom feel free to PM me

Have you got another Hunter lined up Nomad, or are you having a change?
I've just got a Volvo 940 that's been to the moon and back and its fantastic (Apart from all the bulbs being blown!)

^ Hillmanjames - I have been offered a cute 60s estate, if that turns up I am planning to sell the Hunter or take it off the road for a while so I can do a few mods to it I'll also be looking for something sensible* to use as a daily... *sensible = something equally impractical for me, maybe a convertible or a modern estate or something in a nice colour Blue skies, sun is out, we must be in Wales again I do a lot of my driving in Northumberland and Yorkshire. I thought some of the roads there were a bit narrow but driving around the local tracks in Wales has been a real education
