Sorry i actually went to buy one of these once.
I then walked round the back of the black one we were looking at and all i could see was, it had morfed into an FX4 taxi.
Sorry you want a rod get a rod, this is not one.
I do however like the route 66 one a lot, most i have seen at shows have too much fake chrome stuck to them.

I have no problem with PT Cruisers I think they could look cool if done properly and with some imagination. What I do have a problem with is that owners of modified PT cruisers seem to think that they are hot rods, and that having 40 of them on display at hot rod shows is a great idea.

I disagree with the negative thread posters. When you look at some of the moderns some folks try to pass off as 'retro' on here a PT sounds plausible if done right. Problem for me is that it's FWD but that apart has potential IMO.... just don't try to think 'hotrod' whilst you're doing it..... unless your planning to mount it on a RWD chassis, removing the bonnet and front wings and placing a rather large rumbling engine in it.

Not many on here would have a problem rollin' this PT...... Here's the article...... From Cruiser to Bruiser First Gavriles had to find room for the engine. He cut away a good chunk of the firewall and set the engine back from the four-cylinder's original location, though he was able to keep the dash, seats and steering column in their original locations. He also re-oriented the driveline so that power moves to the rear wheels through a 3,000-rpm lockup converter, Chrysler four-speed automatic transmission and Viper rearend. (A six-speed manual was considered but the slush box got the ultimate nod for driving ease.) Gavriles had to construct what he called a "dogbone" chassis structure under the PT to integrate the Viper's rear control arms with the Cruiser's existing chassis. The RT/10 rearend widened the rear track by 4 inches, while the front suspension, which surprisingly retained many of the stock components, was widened by nearly 3 inches. Wilwood disc brakes are at all four corners, and the car sits on a full Air Ride suspension. Neat eh??

We was having a similar discussion a few weeks ago on another forum, I'll refrain from adding anything negative for fear of being black balled for now, although I do like that peach van one that's posted a dozen times in this thread. This woody look-a-like i saw at the Nats a few years back wasn't to bad. But most of the ones I've seen are like this one that was also at the Nats. and this one has been sat outside a garage near Clacton for a long time, I think it tells something about a car when a garage uses one that was less then 10 years old as a advertising board.

The trouble with the PT Cruiser is that it often attracts the wrong sort of owner. Which is a shame, because as cars that are designed to look old, it's right up there with things like the new Fiat 500. Some owners get it right by going with what Chrysler seem to be hinting at with the stock version. Exactly!! I don't remember reading anywhere that Chrysler intended it to be anything more than a modern mini, fiat 500 or a dub bug. Certainly the word 'hotrod' was never mentioned. Still..... there's no accounting for d*ck-heads.... they just don't get it! Love the pics volks..... not sure about the coupe either but I'd roll any of the others.

have to confess I'm feeling the love for these - I'm thinking of what to get as a replacement for my Mini Cooper S which I'm using as a daily driver - I want something a bit bigger but I don't do euroboxes! Don't do it! I used to conduct customer satisfaction surveys for a motor group that included some Chrysler dealers. The very mention of a PT Cruiser fills me with despair.

I have had two of these. Seeing this thread make me want one again. Maybe I should sell one on my E28's and get a diesel one and lower it on some 17" wheels. A two tone paint job would be good, perhaps cream and green. inspiration would the combo be two much?

I agree that far to many Pt's have been distastefully modified. Infact the people who cover them in chrome like the blue "rock n roll" one posted earlier, should be banned from ever owning a car again. Too much , maybe but I just can't understand such bad taste. No doubt someone here will think my "inspiration" posted before is also bad taste just for karma.

Just a thought here. Remember that Minor-fronted Combo van that wes on here recently? That front end would really work on the PT Cruiser. Look at the way that the front wings blend into the door. Minor. Look at the way the doors kick out at the bottom. Minor. Any one up for a Photochop?
