The boot is about 6'8" wide by 7' long by about 2' tall... Fark you can sleep two in there ;D That has already been done. Not by me but the previous owner used to camp in the car. One on each bench seat and two in the trunk.

Would you consider going slightly less retro for you daily drive? Say into the realm of 80's vehicles? Get your self some cheap and nasty J-Tin that sips petrol takes insane amounts of abuse and can be lightly modded on the cheap? Nissan Stanza FTW.

I can't really feel the Stanza / 80s Bluebird / Carina E vibe at all TBH. I know people who've had each of these and they were very reliable and economical. Yeah, very sensible choice, go well, ride well, do everything much better than say an Avenger or Hunter or Corona would. But just not "feeling" it...
Mind you I did have a nice '91 Saab 9000 one time and I did rather like that old barge in a non-retro kind of way.
Feels a bit of a sell out and the weather is getting better too...

I suppose cars like the Stanza etc are all about what you make of them, but they arent the most inspiring thing on the road and i agree with you about the "selling out" aspect of it. I wouldnt swap for something more modern (despite my Golf only being 24 years old) even if it is easier and comfier etc. Still less fun somehow.. Sensible bites the big one when you think about it really!! Go for the LPG in the Olds, how widespread are LPG outlets now? Very common?

apparently you need some special adaptor doobery for 4bbls, BUT they are on the bay cheap.
Good news is, no FI means no emulator, therefore cheap enough to get a kit, there's a NEW one on the bay, buy it now for a rover V8, for £500 or so, or just get a large tank, the 4bbl adaptor, the mixing tap, lines, fuel cut off switch and gas activation microswitch (he rekons a ton might cover that used, plus a 4 BBL adaptor)
Fitting is would be cheap, and a certificate is about £20 from a reputable LPG convertor (and friend of a friend) in Market Harborough area.
Let me know what route you want to take..

The "everyting used for about a ton" route sounds best. I have no idea what I'm doing with any of this stuff of course. Where do I get the used stuff? eBay or any "dealers" I should know of?

cool, well keep your eye on the bay!. I'll get a definitive list of everything you need, you get it and he'll install it.
Start off by getting yourself an LPG tank, the bigger the better, I'm sure your monster "trunk" can swallow it

Cool, as soon as you get me the list I'll get eBay searching. It'll feel like 22 MPG - which is what I got from my 1.6 Cortina!
Motor has 10.5:1 CR, does that matter?

not really, the mixture is setup on a tap, once that is set you just leave it It'll be a basic early setup, start on petrol, blip the throttle and it'll put you on gas, then just keep an eye on the gas gauge and fill her up once you've covered the miles (for half the price!!)
