I always thought it was a US brand that had shifted a franchise over to Japan? Whenever I see Mooneyes, I always think Bonneville, salt flats etc... Since the '90s "Mooneyes" has been a Japanese company, revived by them after Dean Moon died. But yes, the branding is all American and totally connected to the original company. Look forward to seeing what they're like.

Aha....you learn something new every day. That now makes sense why they hold the Mooneyes Nationals over in Japan and the website it very Japanese orientated. Even now though, in my mind, Mooneyes is and always will be an all American brand and my reason for choosing the gear knob still works for me. ;D

Bruce.. I love this! .. I've been waiting for something like this since you talked about what you'd have done with that MR2, it is a shame the MR2 didn't pan out... but this more than makes up for it! Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh at some point

Without thread-jacking, "Even now though, in my mind, Mooneyes is and always will be an all American brand" - I totally agree. It was restarted by a family friend of the Moon family, Shege something (sorry to an obviously fantastic guy for not knowing his name!) who has done a fantastic job of keeping it hotrod. As discussed Bruce,quality aftermarket pieces with a great sense of history

It definately could do with some eye candy in the wheel department to offset the nato IMO but in every respect it's a top piece of work and very original too. I think you're right keeping the lights as they are. Tinting them would make them less visually appealing would prehaps render the car somewhat monochrome looking on the outside. With something like this it's knowing what to change for the better but equally as important where to draw the line. I'd say you've found that point quite precisely

There has to be a good couple of hundred pounds there alone. One of the biggest helps was getting the 'job lot' of stuff from Seth's breaker for £50. I needed the black dash and most of the interior, but came away with wing mirrors so that I didn't have to paint the chrome ones, duplicate interior parts like the speedo binnacle, centre console etc... as well as various other parts. This has given me parts I could sell on to claw back some of the outlay. Despite being within my budget, I have managed to get a lot of things that I didn't originally plan to buy within my £1,000 like the hard top, the roll bar (luckily free!), the Schmidt's (imagine if I took their £700 out of the equation!!) and other things like the speaker cable, fuse blocks etc...which came as an unplanned addded expense when I decided to fit a stereo system. So to summarise, I have a car built exactly how I wanted it, to the standard I wanted it, with all the bits I planned to have from the outset but also with some cool extra bits I didn't expect to get along the way.....INCLUDING the purchase price of the car itself for the grand total of £977.81! I have more plans and ideas for some cool 'optional' bits for the car, but as you know by the way I do things, they won't be too expensive...more 'creatively made' to keep costs down. In the meantime, here is a cracking shot Brian Damaged took of the interior (posted due to my lack of interior shots at the moment) - I have blanked out the head unit because I wasn't going to be revealing this until the stereo is all finished and working, I was keeping this side of things under wraps, but Joe76 kinda put paid to that.... and a parting shot for now

I spoke to the guy and he has no 7909 parts I'm afraid I was kinda hoping he had a complete, mint unit tucked away somewhere, but alas it wasn't meant to be. Bed early tonight, 360 miles ahead tomorrow, hopefully get the parts to fix my stereo, hook up at an MX5 meet on the way back and straight onto a little photo session with a friend after that. Looking like an epic day ahead. No doubt there will be some pics to come ;D

This looks absolutely awesome, back wheels don't quite sit right in my eyes but that doesn't matter. Really impressed with the work you've done, even moreso with the budget you've worked to.

I spoke to the guy and he has no 7909 parts I'm afraid I was kinda hoping he had a complete, mint unit tucked away somewhere, but alas it wasn't meant to be. No spare unicorn horns either??? ;D I love old Alpine kit, I've got the 7618 and external DSP unit going in my project. Trying to find a fibre optic Mbus CD changer to complete the set.

Well that was fun. I left the house at just gone 8.30 this morning and not long got back (currently 2.15am). 17.5hrs on the road today, LOTS of miles covered, some good progress and lots of nice people met. More details to come (I'm way too tired to go into any of that now) In the meantime - have a shot. There will be a few more coming sometime soon.
