I know you're a lover of lightness, do you remember the thread I put up on the Dolly forum asking about seat weight? These were the seats I was talking about. Slightly expensive though, I've never seen a set for sale second hand... I'll eventually get around to treating myself to some. Ah, I always forget about OMP seats. I weighed the Corbeau this morning - 6 kgs ;D albeit in vinyl, which is always lighter than leather.

So, I now just need to track down some cheap, tatty ones, strip, and get trimmed in the right colour. Which is the next big decision....... It is hard - if not impossible - to beat red interior trimming in a grey or silver car. Yep, you're right. It will be a dark red, I'm just trying to find the exact right shade - a mix of terracotta and red somehow....

The brown ones will match the rest of my cars interior, so I'm going with that! (eventually)

that car looks ace... thought about J engines in there?... an SR20DET will give you all the poke you could need for it and as long as the oils changed religiously they are reliable up to silly BHP figures...

I've pretty much considered all engines that I think would fit but I will hopefully not have to go down that route. An SR20DET could be a lot of fun though ;D

Right back on to the wheels. Take my mind off the engine saga... I still think my wheels are a smidge too large for the car? I reckon I need 15"'s rather than 16"s. This will allow me to get the car a bit lower, and the arches will still be filled without having to go too low profile on the tyre and upsetting the ride. So, based on this old thread - retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=112483&page=2I have 2 favourites - BMW Mini One steels - banded, or re rimmed, to the right offset and width OR The wallet buster - Image Billet 46 wheels. I'd be happy with the banded steels if the outer rims could be polished. Can this happen though, because I'd imagine the band will need to be welded on the outside of the centre - therefore, there would be a weld line visible. Anyway, would be interested in peoples thoughts.

Generally speaking, rims are banded in the well section (despite me doing mine 'the other way'!) so, you should still be able to polish the outer rim. However, whilst it is posible to polish steel, it's a twot to keep that way.
Chrome plate the outer ?
Or, failing that, some chrome beauty rings? (assuming you can find 15" flavour)

I recon lower and rounder profile tyres would suit it better than the taller and squarer ones you have at the moment. The shape of the current rims suits the car well I think

I've got to agree about the wheels, a little smaller and a little lower would look good. I agree with sonus that your current wheels style suits it as well. What about something along the lines of these?

I like the wheels it's got, sure they're too big but they give it a cool cartoon look!

The current wheels do suit it well, but the Image wheels I believe would look the nuts!
If you do require some BINI Steels, speak to hoopsontoast (Rob) here. He is selling a set with near enough brand new tyres.

I like the current wheels, but I've always loved the Dunlop magnesium style wheels, as seen on Lightweight E-Types... And these would still be period-correct. One bad thing about them though is that I wish I were the one to put em on a car, cause they are barely seen anywhere though they are lovely...

Yesterday, I went to the Race Retro show (great event, took baby, but not camera, sorry!). The rally stage was absolutely brilliant - and someone else made a nice video, so here we go. Sideways Image wheels had a stand. I had a chat with the Director. I stared at the Billet 46 wheel.....For quite a long time........ I saw a number of old Racing Jags wearing old Dunlops......I then went back and stared at the Billet 46 some more......The Director gave me his card and said he could do a deal - probably to move me off the stand. .....and still, I'm not going to buy them. The cost is crazy, I just can't justify it. They're also not a light wheel because there is so much metal in the centre. Had they been ultra light, I'd have found it even more difficult to say no. So, this doesn't mean I'm sticking with the current wheels though. A plan is hatched, it involves a guy in Essex that is known to a lot of you and a welder ;D ;D

I know there's been a lot of love for your olympic, (and you may well know the vendor in the link below?), i've just seen this link to an olympic for sale and thought there maybe someone who wants to follow it up. www.uphillracers.com/showthread.php/glassfibre-bath-tubs-6013.html?s=4c73c1c2817752637aecb559598655e2&t=6013your's is a great looking car, shame about the engine woe's, but as i once heard someone referring to a highly tuned K-series, ' there's something very british about hearing a motor on the edge of destruction' that was in preference to Japanese power (honda vtec) in lotus elises.

That one does look pretty. It's a Phase 2, so more practical than mine in that it has a bootlid - oooh, the luxury! A plan is hatched, it involves a guy in Essex that is known to a lot of you and a welder ;D ;D Making your own version of the Dunlops using the Bini steels as a base? ;D The car is still miles away in Fareham which is a shame, because I have loads of things to check, measure, and get on with. The clock is ticking and progress is halted at the mo....

So, small update time. Engine has been stripped. Guess what? no unexpected wear So, the noise, and there definitely was a noise, is not the engine itself. Am I happy, umm, I guess so. However, there is still a mystery, and this exercise has, again, cost me money and time! I'll take my mind off it by visiting a leather suppliers this Friday to find the right colour for the interior......

I'm very glad to hear the engine's not dead, that's a bit of a mystery about the noise though. It could just be the video, but it almost sounds like a slight exhaust manifold blow? probably not, but it might be worth a look.

Were the flywheel bolts tight? Also the increase in displacement done with a longer stroke crank? If so is it catching somewhere.
