don't do it is a tip, buy 1 instead. the amount of money you will spend to build 1 which wont be anywhere near as good, also towing dollies, you realy need stearing wheels as when you try and take a corner the to trailer wheels and the 2 car wheels on the road cant turn as your trying to drag 4 tires round a corner all at one. trust me just buy 1 or a trailer

The problem is, here in Portugal there's no chassi tilters or car dollies for sale. A normal trailer would set me back about 1000£ (used) and it's not within my budget. I thought about buying a used trailer in the UK since the prices are much better but driving 4000 kms just to get a trailer is kind of nuts!

Surely they can deliver a trailer that size on a pallet. I built a tilter (rotisserie) it is a lot of work, takes longer than you think because there is a lot of things to think about, access, height, ground clearance, balance, and I wanted mine to be able to be winched up a trailer and taken places with the car still on it. Nothing commecially available would have worked for me.

datman that looks great! I actually don't need the rotisserie to be moved since the garage is big enough. Did you use any plans or something similar? I know there's going to be a lot of work but i still think it's a nice project for me to take.

Hairymel built a rotisserie for his Sunbeam, details included in his Readers Rides thread Here

mine in action.. Didn't really use any plans since my requirement was quite specific, also i used what I had lying around which was some shelving beams and a pair of Nissan rear hubs for the turny bits.

Do you have better photos of the turny bits? That seems to be the hardest part. It may be a stupid question but how do you get the car high enough to mount the rotisserie?

I just used a trolley jack and some bits of wood, do each end a bit at a time to not bend things.

I actually bought the same thing for 1.50£. Instead of a CD or DVD it went straight to my email. Thanks!

I had one years ago that was built from a caravan axle with some 1/4" 5 bar grip plate for the wheels to sit in, and it worked fine, as for the stearing i used to leave the keys in the ignition so the stearing lock wasn't on, so the wheels on the car turn which makes up for the lack of pivot on the dolly.

rear hubs from a nissan maxima. Only because they were hanging around. Better to use some kind of close-fitting tubing.

How do you hold the car in the position you want? Does that "gear" have something to do with it?

it has a brake disc with a sort of home made caliper which clamps the disc when you wind a bolt in. If making from scratch you could just have a big flat disc of metal with lots of holes in and a bolty thing.
