As above. I NEED a VR6 engine in my Jetta and wondered who in the South East is able to do the conversion and is obviously good too. Obviously someone who wont charge a trillion pounds would be nice too but my main priority is someone who can do a good job and obviously i can trust. Any ideas guys? Have a few pics as a thanks for looking:

The Phirm would have been my first suggestion. Have you the facilities to have a go yourself? If yours is on 90 spec electrics (hazard switch on the column) then the wiring shouldn't be too nightmarish.
As an aside, a VR swap will probably limit how low you can run the car. VR sumps are very low, and made from dairy milk alloy, so you might need to raise the engine.

Oxfordshire based mechanic Known as Neil childs is a legend at engine swaps - currently working Crazyquiffs Mk1 parts emporium in Wallingford is one of the only places I'd ever go for work done
Neils build plenty of MK2 goofs in his time and done more engine conversions than I've had hot dinners..
Not the closest, but If you want an honest service then give them a hollar, tell em Lawys sent ya too

on a sid enote, any reason why wanting a VR, as said, sumps run low, they are greddy on fuel and unles syou charge it, they arent that quick, 172 HP and about same torque, a good PD lump feels quicker (my 2.0 TDI feels more epowerful thna my old VR)
Also, things liek the 2.0 ABF is a more common swap and can still deliver around the same BHP, just doesnt have that awesome VR noise tho

Also a 1.8t is much more straightforward, more power and a lighter engine..
VR's are quite heavy changing the handling not in a good way..

Yeah I looked into this for my Jetta & 1.8t is the way to go. Do the work yourself & get a Qpeng loom and I reckon you can get it in for under a grand including buying the engine.

i wouldnt say a 1.8T swap is more straight forward but definately the better engine, much more tuning ability the sky is pretty much the limit.
Also they will never touch a VR on the noise. I put a VR in a mk2 in pretty much a weekend and had it running the following day. Attempt it yourself dude there is so many guides about you cant go wrong!

I think most people who stick the VR' in know it's not 'the lightest, or most powerful'.....however, there are plenty of folks coming back to basics, and throwing one in for a bit of fun. Myself included. I used my Passat as a donor, it was running 192 brake, now in something which weighs not a lot. It's great fun, and I genuinely have no problem with front end weight, I did go widetrack though. And when you break 'em, £300 and you're back in Mmmmm....the noise ;D Get some mates round, buy an engine lift, and get it in. Plenty of help out there on the interwebnet

I would have to see how much the engine could be raised. maybe some kind of turbo would be cool i was just gathering expensive and i don't know anything about them (soo many different engines!) I was just thinking its all to do on the Jetta now then its 'finished' as it were. I I'm happy with everything else i just want a bit more poke and that sound. I don't want a Gti engine either too.....boring 1.8t would be cool but i was guessing purchase price plus everything else very expensive.

I was going on doing all the work myself with the help of a mechanic mate at his garage. Buying an engine/box complete (£500ish). Selling all the undeeded bits & buying a pre made loom from Q-peng www.qpeng.com/conversion_guide.htmlUsing Gti gearbox & driveshafts. This was just a cost to get it running though, I'd think about brake upgrades later.

haha, yeah the VR was awesome for noise, i used to get around 27mpg from mine on the commute, then i fitted induction kit and backbox and it changed to around 15 mpg becaus eI was pretty much caning it everywhere
It was a good engine, don't get me wrong there, but with driving PD engines as well, the diesel torque feels so much quicker...
Dotn think I'd have another tho..

Like Stooby says, there are lots of guides out there on how to go 1.8T. I know the noise doesn't bear comparison but it would be my choice. For power, economy, tunability and reliability they can't be beaten. Plus you don't have so much of an issue with the sump being low.
If you can pick up a written off mk4 GTi for cheap enough, rip out all the bits you need and part the rest out at sensible money, you stand a good chance of getting the engine, gearbox and most of the other bits you need for pretty much free.

VR is definitely the answer, just for the noise alone. I ran my mk3 VR pretty damn low and never had any issues with the sump, I just used to break a lot of front spoilers!
If it's not powerful/torquey enough for you, a Schrick intake manifold and a good remap makes a huge difference to the torque characteristics as well as gaining a good few bhp, but they are quite expensive. For bigger power a supercharger kit isn't hugely expensive these days, dead easy to fit and then you are talking close to 300bhp. IMHO a supercharged VR is a million miles more fun than a boosted up 1.8T.
If you don't fit the engine yourself, I'd also vote for the Phirm - I think Tim could probably do a VR conversion in his sleep now!

I'll dig a picture of my vr mk2 out dude i used to run that low low on 16x9s they was well tucked up into the arches and i never once hit my sump. The subframe was still a bit lower but i made a slightly higher front mount to push the sump up a bit higher, engine still didnt touch the bonnet. I'm sure there is something you can do though i remember reading about R32 sumps or something?

Thats why i asked on here. As everyone knows I'm not really handy with spanners and as i lack knowledge also i don't know what to do. Looking into it, it seems a 1.8t is much easier route. is that so? Its the sound i want but at the same time if i could get a more modern/reliable engine which is less to put in and easier to do a conversion maybe i should look into that. Well confused now LMAO

Another factor is that when i have the conversion done i want the inside/outside of the car looking exactly the same. Therefore will either of these conversions be possible without changing the clocks? I would need a frontmount intercooler if i went 1.8t just for piece of mind (although i suppose you wouldnt even see it)
Cant go widetrack as otherwise i wont be able to get the wheels i want due to scrubbage issues!
