I don't even wanna read the fail sheet for my car.......MOT time soon, this'll be fun. In hindsight, I should have MOT'd before I'd spent and fitted 300 quids worth of bits to it Bloody hope it's worth it ;D (sure it will be)

Still, could be worse! Doesn't seem like a mountain to climb - you'll have a ticket on it in no time!

Unlucky mate, but just think when both of them are on the road again. I have about 2 months left on mine, but she always fails on something stupid. Then again its been 4 years of use since things like wheel bearings were changed so I guess it may need them.
I like to do a pre-flight check before my MOT but just on the more expensive/Hard to work on items.

I thought it was 14days! This is happening with alot these days, the amount of times mates are having to 'turn it down' (and run like curse word) then after test wang it back up again to run right!!!

With "New" MOT's a fail is an instant fail and invalidates your current MOT too, as far as I'm aware.....and you don't get free retests anymore (once the new system is completely instated by the something or other of April) Ho hum. And they'll be picking on all your mods and numbers

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

I'm not sure - my dad seems to think it is. Well now they look to see what parts are nonstandard or somesuch. Here's a few odds and sods : So no free re-tests basically then, given the time it takes to get parts/do the work. Just digging up the other bits if they exist

How can tey fail you on none standard parts, if so that me and most of the people here fubard. Surley it would be a human rights issue too as you should be able to customise your own vehicle as long as the work is done to a good level.

Hmm, I'd have to say that it doesn't appear the test has changed but I remember someone saying otherwise. I think what I picked up on was that the engine/vin numbers will be stored on computer, so if they don't match it'll be a hassle

the free retest bit is dependant on the garage owner. the trouble is that because of the computer system they need to do the whole test again if there is anything other than a few minor faults or so, which means as its another 30-60 minutes of their time they frequently will charge.
If we are all honest with ourselves we all know an MoT failure sheet like the back of our hands, so we could run a thorough MoT at home before it goes to the garage. I'm as guilty as anyone, usually i just cant find the time.

The free re-test generally does not bother me as I usually get the first test done on a Saturaday, and working all week means I can't work on the car till the following weekend so the 7 Days have expired.

That has always been the case, if you MOT it, Pass or fail the latest mot is the most representative of vehicle condition so that is the one that becomes Current ;D

I've got to get my golf inspected tomorrow, so far i've tightened the rear wheels bearings as they were a bit wobbly - my bloody fault for not doing them up properly fixed a tiny blow from a exhaust joint going to give an " italian tune up " later, and all should be cool.....he said.....fingers crossed.. always check everything before you go, expecially now there are no free re-tests......you'll be kicking yourself for failing on something you really should have examined before you left home !

CR500Dom, I was coming more from the fact that now, if, say, you're selling a vehicle with remaining MOT (say, 11 months and you retested out of interest and failed), it actually will have 0 and requiring passing an MOT before having a valid ticket, due to the new certificates.
But I can't find if this is the case
