OK, what's the difference between Bosozouku and Garuchan? Are there any other terms we should be familiar with in this scene? I'm really into this kind of thing, but my Japanese is a little sketchy ;D Arigato.

Bosozoku and Garuchan are the same thing as far as we're concerned... but Bosozoku means Speed Tribe in Japanese (apparently) and have a bad reputation for being agressive etc. I think people are distancing themselves a little from this stuff now.. Garuchan translates as something like "Conspicuous" and the idea at events is to have the most Garuchan car

Yes I've heard the original wording of 'Bosozuku' definition/image is in the same style as 'Hells Angles' so to speak.

Bosozuku = 15 people crammed into a Cressida with the roof cut off, driving at 15mph, no?
Does anyone have the link for that american guy who went over to Japan and took a feckload of photos?
Lots of night-time, low-angle shots...Including that purple skyline that keeps getting posted...

GO FOR IT!The exhausts extensions could be 'clamp on' for when actually at the show (but still got to 'carry' them there ...arrr!) In this country the only problem with doing a 'Boso' car is a lot of people would associate your car with the 'kiddy-Kruse'/'maccy dees' brigade... ...and the 'Kiddie-Kruse/maccy dees' idiots would think you are trying to be-like-them but not able to afford a 'modern car' . But we would understand ...and worship you for it! ;D **we are not worthy** we are not worthy** we ar... ;D Steady on old boy! Remember this is all in my mind, and nothing much there ever sees reality (maybe just as well). My mental image sometimes also features that cowl effect over the front grille and lights, using the partly-rusted bonnet and wings I have so I'm not wasting good (and scarce!) panels. At the moment I can't even guarantee that I'll make it CARS due to too much Real Life, like children, Mrs SL having been made redundant etc so I won't be making any promises about this car. Ultimately I'd always favour a look that would take elements from something and enhance the original style of the car, not just slap a load of tat on for the sake of impressing a small group of people even if done with humour and irony. Agreed with BenzBoy, any chance of an explanation of the different looks? I've a feeling we lump everything in with Bosozuku when it's really far more complicated than that. Edit: Now read the above, took me too long to type what with work etc, tsk. BTW, anyone read a book called Wrong About Japan? More related to the manga/anime scene, but still interesting reading and makes you realise how complicated Japanese life is.

I love the Engrish on the visors: SEXY ALTO! EXCITING TEAM RISK! SEXY COSMO NO.1! Top Style! *n Ha Ha I was thinking the same - I love J'english - for my radio controlled car racing I use a few electric parts manufactured by a company called KO Propo - their slogan is 'Makes you exciting spirit' ? ;D Can anyone remember what the sticker says on the glass roof panels of a JDM Tbar MR2, I know I read it once & it made me chuckle I love the Boso - Garuchan (as we've just been educated) Style. But only because it is done in the 'tongue and cheek' spirit - in the same way I suppose that we would stick a 60s Beetle roofrack onto an 80s Golf and load it with (the wrong) Period Accessories. I think Boso also seems to typify for us the slightly mysterious eastern culture brought through into cars, 'we don't quite understand but there must be some deep & meaningful reason for it' - I suppose Bosozouku is to cars what Manga is to cartoons?
