So I thought it was about time I introduced this little gem. I originally brought it as a present for my wife. That was about 10 years ago, she used it every day to go to work and occasionally I would take it to work (a 60mile round trip) to clear the cobwebs out ;D. One day on a blast to my work place there was suddenly the unmistakable sound of big ends knocking. The little car maneged to make it to where I worked and one of are mechanics had a quick look. It didn't look good,at the time I had now where that I could do any series work to the car with out risking my life (we lived in a village where there's know pavements and the car was parked in the road). So a friend of mine at the time was working for a place that did reconditioned engines. My mate striped the lump and discovered that every part inside was shot.So he decided to start withe a fresh lump, problem was that A30s have a 803cc A-series and there are not many around. He told me the best he could do was to rebuild a 1098cc lump would that be ok O yes ;D Any way not long after getting her back on the road we brought are first house ,and after a small problem withe Austin it was put in to the garage and left while all are time and money went in to doing up the house. Fast forward to now and 9 years siting in a damp garage has not done her any favors. And I think that's a enough of me waffling lets have some pics. Told you it hasn't seen the road for a while. Damp+Austin=not good news Air cooled brakes. Lets strip. Someone's idea of an invisible repair. The rear floor is ok but the front needs replacing luckily I have two new panel's to go in. That looks better. This is my first attempt at welding, I think I need a bit moor practice. Could be worse. Feel the power. Wheres it gone. There it is. More welding. Retro art? And that's as far as iv got with it for the moment. The plans are to build her in to a 50s style custom, withe pail yellow paint work with a white roof and red banded steel wheels withe white wall tiers.

But I would like to up grade the carbs I have always thought about putting a suzuki cappuccino 660cc turbo lump in one ;D

ustin A30s/A35s have got to be one of my favourite cars going, I love 'em. I also like the way they fit in a single garage with loads of room to work on them!

I've never seen a two-tone one of these, or one done in a 50s custom style, so I look forward to seeing your updates with glee since those are two of my favourite things.

This one currently has a two tone paint job as a previous owner painted it in smothright green.Manly it appears to hide the plod in the rear doors. So I had to do a quick paint job withe the white paint to tidy it up a bit when it was still I'm daily use. As you can see its come back to haunt me now.

This car makes me smile 1098cc certainly makes one of these a bit peppier. Twin HS2s from a spridget/mini look cooler but a single HS4 might be easier to live with. I did the former

Do you mean a twin choke verticle type carb? There's always been manifolds for side draught DCOE's etc. Here's mine for old times sake (was an A35)

That's going to be fappin' gorgeous. Should I decide to once again enter the world of old British cars (and I've not long had some good financial news that will make that a distinct possibility.....), an A30/35 will be somewhere near top of my list. Looking forward to seeing how this one develops.

Decided to do a bit more to the little car today. So I headed of to my local B&Q to perches a cheep random orbital sander to cut through years of curse word paint jobs.I thought there's no point buying a decent one as all the layers of smoothrite paint would probably kill it by time I have finished the project. The sander only cost £19.99 and works a treat . Sanding back to bare metal also lets me to see what rust and bogged repairs are hiding underneath. luckily there's just the rust on the lower part of the front panel that I all ready knew about. Who was that masked man? Man and powertool in perfect harmony. A quick coat of rust protector and that's it for the afternoon, time for a drink. ;D

Love this thread ;D What is that Rust Preventor? Judging by the colour I'm assuming its Hammerite,s product No1 Rust Beater? If so its good stuff but Enamel Based so you will have to paint over it with Enamel otherwise reaction could occur I think this car is crying out for Coach Paint anyway Traditional Paint for a Traditional Car ;D i really like the sound of your plans its going to look Sweet ;D If you do go the Coach Paint route don't use Smoothrite you can get proper coach enamel cheaper and will give a better finish than Smoothrite are you planning on the same colours again or something different? Keep up the good work Jodie

Keep up the good work Jodie Thanks for the advice, yes you are correct it is Hammerite,s product No1 Rust Beater. The car will be two tone but this time it will have a white roof and pail yellow body. I don't know yet what paint I am going to use but one thing for shore it wont be Smoothrite. I have had enough of this stuff after spending hours sanding layers of this off the car.

I thought it was no1 rust beater because its quite a distinctive colour used it when I stripped and painted the floorpan on my Mini and found it reacted with Cellulose and 2k I ended up overcoating it with Smoothrite but any Enamel would of done just as well Theres nothing Stopping you Overcoating it with a Synthetic Alkyd Enamel that you can more often than not get Custom Mixed to any shade at most Paint Factors these days It can be applied by Brush,Roller or thinned and Sprayed and the finish if not rushed and prepped properly is just as good as a celly or 2k spray, some may even say its better Just check out volksangels thread hes using Coach Enamel and its Fabb ;D The colourscheme sounds lush I'm guessing your thinking something like a primula yellow and white? Cant wait to see the top coats on ;D Jodie
