Bled the brakes and re-set the ride height last week, just the gearbox oil to do on that list Fitted the front foglamps this afternoon. Unfortunately no pictures yet and they don't work yet. Will hopefully get to the scrappy to pick up the necessary wiring bits tomorrow. Will get the pictures when they're up and running

Got the wiring loom from the scrappy today and fitted it. Also fitted the missing fuse but they still don't work I'm guessing there is a relay that's missing, watch this space!

So, there was indeed a relay missing Fitted one and they still didn't work However, a bit of testing with my trusty test lamp and power probe located the fault, a bad connection on the 'new' wiring loom I aquired from the scrappy. A bit of cleaning of connections and they were working I also spent the afternoon cleaning. A full polish, windows, tyres, plastics etc. Some pictures of her. If the weather is good tomorrow I hope to get some better ones. Fog lamps fitted: And just to prove they work More soon

So this morning I visited my local Citroen agent and spent the massive total of £6 on four new hinge pins for the front doors So I set about fitting them. Top pins on both doors dead easy Bottom pin on the passenger door rounded the internal torx but luckily a hammer and big chisel got it moving and eventually out Bottom pin on the driver's door firstly broke my T40 bit (second one that has broken in the set made by Laser, so I think I need a decent set) Then it sheared off Despite several applications of WD40 and belting it with a punch and mash hammer it wouldn't budge So I've left it for now. Will keep soaking daily with release fluid and hope it shifts next weekend. Pictures: Passenger side done: Driver's side with the remains of the pin still in grrrr!

Just throwing this out there but...if you're having real trouble with this, I guess a lot of it's to do with access. How about removing the front wings and closing the doors to access the pins from the other 'less mangled' side?

It's a possibility however I don't really want to remove the front wing if I can help it. I hope a bit of time spent soaking in WD40 will free it enough to knock out. Time will tell.....
Fortunately as it is still in there the door opens and closes as it should so I can do it in a week or twos time.

When I got the car the speedo didn't work. Turned out to be a dodgy cable. Long story but although it works it has been quite bouncy and makes an annoying clicking sound Later cars have electronic speedos so a cunning plan came to mind. Off to the breakers Dash cluster with electronic speedo Electronic sender (beside the original cable drive) they're a straight swap Not in the easiest place to get to But I got the sender unit fitted. There was already a connector in the area just the right length, with the right number of wires, and it fitted. Result Unfortunately after fitting the dash cluster everything else works except the speedo More work needed there then On a positive note at the same breakers I had a lucky find getting these They came off a R reg Xantia hatch and look too good to be the originals, they must have been fitted recently... Pictures: I didn't know when I bought the car but apparently these are a common failure spot on Xantias

Ohw, that's interesting. I just swapped the mechanical drive speedo on my "new" -94 Xantia VSX for another one as it wasn't working. I had no idea the electric speedo was a straight swap. And yeah, good find on those strut top mounts, I've heard of struts trying to make their way through the bonnet at some point... reminds me I need to check mine.

Mmm, unfortunately not exactly a straight swap. The mysteries of Citroen wiring need to be unravelled

The speedo now works Ended up wiring it in myself with the multiplug and wiring I cut from the donor car at the breakers. There was no wire to the dash cluster so I put that in myself through the old outer speedo cable ;D So good to have a quiet, non bouncy speedo Looking at the drivers side strut top today, looks like I need to make that my next priority

Big weekend of Xantia love this weekend. First job was the driveshaft seals in the gearbox. All went without problems a few photos below: Then on to strut top replacement: Painted the top surfaces to give protection: Drivers side had been 'repaired' by welding: Turned out to be well rotten: Inner wing ground off, protected with Smoothrite and the replacement fitted: Hit a major problem removing the drivers side supply pipe. Someone had fitted it without a seal and it had jammed in. Then hatched a cunning plan, messed up and had to replace the pipe What a nightmare Anyway got it done and it's now back together. Seems to run much better with oil in the gearbox Also discovered that both struts are heavily corroded where the gaitors sit. The gaitors were damaged and not fitted to the strut tops so I think they have been a mud and water trap causing the corrosion. Looks like yet another trip to the breakers this time for struts

No pictures sadly but a bit more done today: Oil and filter change including a new genuine Citroen sump plug and washer! Hopefully that's one oil leak fixed! Also replaced the fuel filter (the first one it's had since I bought it over 2 years ago ) Next job is to replace the cam belt while I replace the front crankshaft seal to hopefully cure yet another leak
