Been admiring your work from afar for quite a while now. At the risk of suggesting something you may already have considered - have you seen, or thought of Lizard Skin? www.lizardskin.com/ I have heard good things about it and will be trying it out on my own project (whenever I pull my finger out...). I hadn't seen it but Mr. blackpopracing was advising something similar but the problem would have been adhesion. Having Waxoyl'd the underneath previously we are dubious of getting it clean enough to allow anything to bond to the tinwork and that would still leave the wooden floors. I've said it before (and no doubt will say it again ) but we now have a deadline. Somehow, against all expectations, I've got an entry to the Goodwood Spring Sprint for, wait for it..............wait for it............, the blue 2CV!!!!! What would be nicer than turning up with it on the Goddess? Fingers crossed everybody please

Maybe you can load something else on the back as well and split the fuel costs? I feel the 2CV may be a little dwarfed.

Another small job ticked off as I dragged out 'El Humongo' the 12 volt lorry battery that cranked the low compression petrol engine. We have the 24/12 volt changeover relay but we're going to try a Leyland Roadrunner starter on 12 volts first. If successful we'll abandon the mixed voltage system. Connecting up the battery conditioner showed it was still alive. Hoorah!

It won't be long now! 😃
I've been agonising over the 12/24v issue lately.
I've a preference for keeping everything 12v as it simplifies things, all my gauges, accessories and planned kit is 12v, and the trailer hookup too. But that does mean that I've got to sort 12v starting and a 12v solution for my tail-lift. The lads that put these engines into Landrovers often report issues with 12v starting, but I'm unconvinced they are not mainly caused by undersized batteries and/or cables (and IQs). A battery the size of yours should work fine.
Where did you source your roadrunner starter, if you don't mind me asking, and what did it set you back?
I'm also considering using a hydraulic PTO off the gearbox to power the tail-lift, as that makes more sense to me than spending out on a 12v motor for that.

No. I think he must have done a deal with someone else for the whole job lot as he never responded to any of my messages after the first one. Back to square one.

Then, my son, I may have some good(ish) news. There's a guy on The Cummins LR Group that's selling a Case starter & spacer plus carriage for £246 BUT I'm talking to a company call Electrostart who reckon it could be more like £150-160 if I give them the right part numbers. I'll keep you informed. Also my old-skool battery may be a bit weedy as 1000CCA is called for but I've got enough room to put two in parallel and that should give me 1520CCA. Critical thing is good earth(s), short cable runs and bl00dy good cable. Yes, it is getting close but if you follow other threads such as blackpopracing you will see the last 10% takes 90% of the time. Goodwood Spring Sprint for the Goddess' first outing is now off the table but it could be Crystal Palace in May. Love to take it to the Jersey Festival but the ferry costs are too high for a three day event

All the millions of Dodge pickups over here with Cummings are all 12 volt with dual battery's, 850 cca at least if I remember right. My ford is the same, it will hardly start on one battery in the summer when warmed up. Now that I think of it the big trucks are 12 volt as well, my Westernstar has six battery's. 24 is a pain if you ever need to jump start with cables

I have a mate with a Bluebird bus, and that has 3 massive batts in parallel to run it's 24v Cummins ISB at 12v. Due to having about four million fans and things for the many A/C systems, it's got a 12v alternator the size of a small car.

Now that I think of it the big trucks are 12 volt as well, my Westernstar has six battery's. 24 is a pain if you ever need to jump start with cables My problem is that whilst I definitely don't want to spend £250 on a starter motor, I don't want loads of batteries either; despite having the space and payload to carry them I would sooner have the money sunk in a starter that should last a long time rather than batteries with finite lives. Ideally, all the wagon's electrics will be 12v. That will mean easy sourcing of bulbs and spares when out and about, one set of bits would be suitable for all my vehicles and any accessory I intend to fit would be available at 12v domestic automotive/camping/caravanning prices rather than 24v commercial vehicle extortionate ones. I'd like one big 12v battery to do the starting and vehicle services, and a second deep cycle one off a split-charge relay to run the camping/living side of things. These are the specs I've gleaned off t'interwebz for 12v starters for the Cummins, hopefully they'll be of assistance. 12v Starter Part Numbers: Bosch: 0001369019 0001369007 0001369025 CASE: 114799A1 Cummins: 3283812 Lucas: LRS01300 LRS1300 LRS02589 LRS2589 ASL: S2589 Mahle: MS271 Iskra: AJZ3236 Guttels: 114343 Delco-Remy: DRS3947 Specs: Voltage 12v Kilowatt 3.1 Teeth 9 Rotation Clockwise Flange dia 89mm Connecting angle 45° Mounting holes 3 Mounting hole PCD 127mm Flywheel depth 51mm Glen.

If you cannot succeed with a 12 volt starter, I believe the 4.2 land cruiser uses a relay to use twin batteries to run on 12 volts and switch to 24 volts for the starter motor Ttfn Glenn

Decisions, decisions? 1) Rewind starter @ £250 plus VAT 2) Buy known good starter from Cummins group guy including spacer and postage @ £246 3) Wing it with info from glenanderson 's list of part numbers but getting involved in making spacers @ £160 to sky's the limit The object of concern All we know is that it's a Bosch with 9 tooth pinion but none of the numbers on the casing mean anything to the local lorry parts people or even to Mr. Google
