Hopefully a photo inside the cab attached. This shows the sort of idea although this isn't the braided stuff and has two bolt clamp instead of one. It appears after all my hard work wiring I forgot to take any photos of the final result! Will get some this weekend. The second photo shows the braiding in place for the feed to the added indicators and sidelights. This was the trucks first outing in about 20 years so still a lot of tidying and work to do! Only broke down twice over about 4 miles.........   |

Just canvassing some opinions here. You can see that the original surface wiring was horrible and now I've got to consider what to do.  The art-deco interior lamp needs wiring-in plus the windscreen wiper motors and another switch box. All is going to be visible and I'd like it to be sort-of period industrial/military to go with the whole 50's vibe. I can go PP extruded fexible plastic conduit sprayed in a faded silver but prone to paint flaking  or I can go with galvanised steel flexible conduit but there is not much in the way of junction boxes etc.  Can anyone else come up with some thing suitable? Can you use this stuff?  have enough of this stuff in various diameters |

Although manoeuvring an outfit that is about 70ft long is fun!

[/quote] Some of the smaller diameters are lighter in color more like this  this stuff is real old skool and was used in the dutch railway to sleeve electrical cable. i wil cut some ends of and try to make a picture of the diameters i got okay ? |

i have personally used the Tesa self amalgamating loom tape that logicaluk linked. its good stuff but possibly not post ww2 Britain enough |

Places like autosparks will wrap looms in cotton braid which would be period correct.

Blimey - that's a blast from the past. Got to be 25 years since I last did lacing (on MOD stuff). Double ties with the knot varnished to stop it coming undone..I'm going to have nightmares tonight!

I have made custom looms, and want to keep it straight and tidy without resorting to clipping it every 3", we wrapped the loom, even 2 wire , or singles for that matter, we included a length of 2 or 3mm plastic coated garden wire, include that in the wrap it makes it stiff, you can now bend the loom however you want and it keeps its form, and if the loom is seen, looks really good and tidy

I still bear the scars of lacing 500 pair telecoms cables on Strowger exchanges  Much sympathy. If lacing two wires is impractical, what about using a pipe as a conduit, fuel hard line is copper or cupronickel, brass end fittings can be adapted and drilled. Just a thought. |

It may be a bit laborious, but I have seen solid conduit in our old school buses, painted to match the interior color.
almost like copper pipe with fittings.....

Is the water ingress under control, Ian? And then someone comes along and rains on your parade. If it's the tilt you're talking about then the battens have worked as logic would say they would. If it's the driver's windscreen or the inevitable panel leaks while under way then no. |
