I always liked the looks of the rancho, had a cheap RC one for many years when i was a kid, would love one mounted on a Four trak chassis.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

Relentlessly awesome. I had a toy one from age 3ish, and always wanted one. Not seen one in years and years. Am I right in thinking it was 4x4 but had sh1t all ground clearance? Good old "the French".

Isnt it something like only 6 or 7 are left on UK roads at present. - I too had a corgi model in red and always thought they were an awsomw shape - maybe there are loads more tucked away in sleepy villages in rural france? - go get a left hooker instead?

20-30 years ahead of their time methinks. I saw that one in the LeMans thread too and went straight to ebay. Plenty of model ones, but that's about it.

There were 2 on Ebizzle about a year or so ago. I had to hold my bidding hand back. I had a Matchbox and a Corgi one as a child. Just Awesome.

I love them, I had a toy model of one as a child that I loved, There is one sitting on my local pub forecourt in fact, It's been sat there for getting on 6 months unmoved so far. Has a strange tailgate arrangment, Maybe for wheel chairs?

Pickups all have drop down rear doors, its same tailgate arrangement as a lot of 4x4's had, its handy as it lengthens the load bed and provides a seat with a rain cover, the bottom half would just get in the way of a wheel chair.
unless you mean the top part going up into the roof? that just makes the hole bigger and gets the tailgate up higher.

If you look the lower panel hindges to the left instead of dropping down and there a black panel below the tailgate that I guess is a ramp for wheelchairs.

That is indeed a wheelchair version, also had hydraulics on the rear suspension that lowered it. The conversion doubled the price of a Rancho when new.

Seems like loads of us had the red Matchbox Matra -used to be one of my faves (had working suspension iirc) + there was a full size red one up my road when I was a kid. Like has been said before, they were ahead of their time and still rock.
