Due to a change in personal circumstances I am going to be selling off the daily and buying something cheaper to raise a bit of capital.
My current daily is a Scenic RX4 TDi which actually ticks nearly all the boxes on my 'daily requirements'
It does double the MPG of my Delica, it can carry four/five passengers, is a good load lugger, very comfy on long journeys, lots of toys (leather, climate control, electric windows/sunroofs/mirrors, remote locking, trip computer, steering controls for stereoetc....) and is different enough from a lot of other moderns that in the 4,000 miles since running it, I've not once felt bored or the need to change. I never thought I'd say it about a Scenic, but without the need to raise some money, I wouldn't want to sell it.
Right....since looking around at cars I could replace it with all rationality has gone out of the window. I started looking at ColonelK's brothers Carlton estate (load lugger, comfy etc....) but recently got sidetracked when Funkula advertised that Honda Legend...which I rang him and agreed a deal on. This would have been on my drive by now had he returned any of my many phonecalls, texts, PM's, emails or answerphone messages sent since last Thursday. Suffice to say I've given up stalking the elusive (dare I say hermit like) Funkula and started looking elsewhere.
Having then stepped back and looked at what I was about to buy I realised I was willing to buy a car outside my 'rational' list and I started looking at other motors...and with the fun drive of Craig's MX5 the other week fresh in my mind, along with missing my GF's Barchetta....I have narrowed my search down to MX5's or (for no particular reason other than I like them a LOT) a fourth gen Civic as my back-up! (can you see a big lack of pattern here LOL!)
So, thoughts on MX5's, what to look for (early ones) and any stonking pics for inspiration please. If you have a good argument for a 4th Gen Civic then pics and thoughts on these as well please. I'm even open to other ideas for a cheap daily.
Paintwork is not an issue because I can easily repaint when I get time after the Gathering, nor are dents or minor rust an issue.....but a mechanically reliable & proven car that I can snag for less than £1,000 is my current starting point ideally with reasonable economy (30-35mpg). LS400's were also thought about but fuel/running costs & insurance dropped them at an early stage.
I'm all ears....and await some cool pics...
