We get to Westbury after taking the scenic route (i.e. avoiding Bath!) have a quick catch-up & chat with Tim. The Zodiac made it all the way with only a stop to check a rattle (turns out to be a loose bumper!) Facing the MOT ramp - but it was out of action due to a motor problem. Tim does the MOT on the deck....with the assistance, and under the supervision of Jed Tim tries to convince Chris to stick the Zodiac on the rollers... Back to poking around. It's all pretty soild under there! Some spare fly-eyes tint donated to the Zodiac. Looks very effective in the flesh. Fitting it to this shape lens was very tricky! Judgement time....will it pass on the brakes? I think I might try this shot in B&W sometime Chris is informed of the good news With 12 months MOT we finish out chat with Tim and say our goodbyes.

We then head down the road to where Si (B8D) works. After a quick tour of the amazing workshops, Kev, Chris & I head out the back to root around in the big pile of spare crossply's to find Kev a good pair for his Pop. The place is amazing....I could spend days, literally days there photographing the place but for now, here is a single solitary teaser shot of the kind of thing that happens there: Out of the blue Adam's Dad turns up to get some welding done. Tim also appears on his lunch break and before we know it, there are 6 members of RR all together by chance! That ertainly doesn't happen often. Here are some shots of Si welding up the sump for the Locost: After another browse around the workshop we bid our fairwells to Si, Tim (again) and Adam's Dad then head off to Trowbridge where Chris takes great delight in producing his new MOT and his insurance in exchange for 12 months FREE road tax. This was clearly a very novel concept for Chris. LOL Next stop, food....we fill our boots on Tesco's pies while sat in the carpark. Sheer class! But when you're in a car as cool as this you just don't care. We then trundle back towards Bristol stopping a Chris' friends pub for a cheeky drink and chat (no pics...shame because it was a lovely pub and lovely people!) Back at Area 52 the cars are checked over for their journey home. Chris' Zodiac for its maiden voyage down to Kent, and Kev's truck for its trundle back up to N Wales. A few parting shots A totally spontaneous day, 100% awesome. Amazing people, good friends, great cars, great laughs and now fond memories. I'll leave you with this shot which sums it all up for me:

...although a bit too much 'me' for the eyes! ROFLHERCULESELOLZ! Do shut up Pollitt....this thread is based around you and your car. Of course you're going to be in it lots. Glad to see Kev made it down his hill on Saturday without breaking himself (assuming he got there?) Oh yes, he managed to survive despite his best attempts at throwing himself down the hill with total disregard for his own safety on Katie's old bike LOL He had some great stories too....sounds like a proper bunch of nutters trying to kill themselves!

Somebody buy KFW 2 pies next time! I'll reimburse gladly for the second one. ;D I'd picked up a sandwich, so had Chris. We both turned to see Kev stood there with not one, but TWO steak pies in his hands. "I'm sorted lads. Tescos pies two for a pound...I'll see you at the tills" I decided that Kev's quantity/taste/price ratio was far better than my £2.40 sarnie and quickly followed suit. So did Pollitt. ;D He's a canny lad is that Kev.

Think you need to align your wheel there lad! I couldnt live with that, it would drive me bonkers. I actually pulled over the other day and at the side of road proceeded to unbolt my steering wheel to realign it as it was factionally off on the spindle. Yes I am a spaz.

The thing is James, the tyres could have been shaped like 50 pence pieces, the exhaust banging constantly against the chassis, the windows falling out of their runners and the doors opening themselves on bends.....Chris still wouldn't have cared.
Having his Zodiac back on the road after all these years was all that mattered. Having a new MOT was like having Christmas in the middle of the year....then being given the present of 12 months free road tax was, to Chris, like the Queen having her second birthday.
To say he was a happy boy would be just a teeny bit of an understatement. I am just glad I was there to share it with him....and witness the door swing open by itself on the 90 degree bend in West Street (outside where Jo works)

I enjoyed mot-ing Chris's car as it is a retro foremost & also I kinda guessed he wouldn't come alone,i expected Bruce & Jed but not Kev from Wales but it was a pleasant suprise to catch up with you all........ Anyone else needs their retro of modern mot-ing holla me up via PM & I will do my best to help,i may be a fair drive away for some of you but theres plenty of unusual cars I work on in the yard & the kettle is always near the boil but Monday's we have no apprentice on site & thats why no tea was offered to the guys on this occasion! Tim....
