what have you done?? you've bought a winner! a hundred and fifty notes is a steal for that, even if it's a bit tattygrotty. i've been having golf-cabro style pervings for a while and found nothing for less than 7-800 quid. if you decide it's too hairdressery let me know

i actually like the fact it's not the regulation white, with white roof and clipper kit. so many identikit golfs out there and that's the reason for the hairdresser stereotype. well, that and the Escort cabro special edition they did that was dusky metallic pink with white leather

Phew, all the good responses on here have made me feel alot better about buying it.
Hopefully get up to collect it in the next few days, or maybe next weekend.
From the other pics I have, it looks like it needs a new hood fitting. Hope it doesnt need too much welding.
Plan is to get it and see what obvious work it needs done for an MOT, and get that done. Get it a ticket, and have a cool ride for the summer (Fingers crossed)

Looks like a good purchase - even if it turns out to be rotten, you could make your money back parting it out!

Intersesting, to do up a cab must be different to all the hardtop mk1's. great big up the ironic hairdressers car massive, join the club would look cool euro'd ? or is that too obvious

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Hmmm, I'm thinking ditch the rag top, cut down the screen, rear seat area paneled over with faired in headrests a la 60's T-bird, and a whacking the 'the stick'... Voila... Golf speedster
|
|
... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

What a steal! Top eBaying there. I know the feeling though - totally brassic lint, but somehow compelled to bid on an old motor on eBay thinking "it's OK I'll never win it at that price..." Then you win it.... Bid first, think later! ;D

jammy bleeder.....you rarely see a cab foe less than £500, even if you ebayed it in exact same condition youd get at least twice your cash for it.

It gets a little better. Borrowed a A frame from a friend, so will be up at the weekend to collect the wee beastie.
Spoke to the seller on the phone yesterday. He has owned the car from new, and has a full service history. His wife bought a Saab in 2000, he had just had the golf MOT'ed and serviced. Then he laid the car up. In a dry garage, and he said that it hadnt even rolled out the garage during that time..
I just hope it's going to be as good as I am building it up in my head

New Front wings, front panel, rear arches, bonnet and back lower valance...Oh and a new roof....
Will get some pics in the morning, but looking good so far.
Heading up to machine mart to buy a welder tomorrow morning as well.
