gen 3 Camaro rag top for less than £2K will be hanging. A Gen 3 Camaro hard top for under £2K will be a V6 and "Not the best example". Same story goes with the Fox mustangs. £2500 should start to buy a V8 one worth having though.
You can get a "nice " Chrysler LeBaron convertible for less than £2K. The turbo ones are OK. The V6 ones are acceptable. The 2.2 non turbo will be a suckfest. There are usually a couple on eBay.

Ive just bought a Renault 19 16 Valve cabrio and would have to say I'm mightily impressed. The engine has sensible performance upto around 4.5k and then all hell breaks loose. Very revvy engine and I'm getting around 40mpg which I'm very pleased about. Pretty comfy too with amazing seats. Also in my mind with the roof down very pretty aswell due to the pods behind the rear headrests. Oh and insurance is dirt cheap ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Not mine, but very similar: ![](http://i.ytimg.com/vi/RJO2fgTclc4/0.jpg) Oh and mine is a good example and only cost £700. They don't fetch much compared to other cabrios ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

If I hadn't been spending today re-installing my computer I would have had a pic up of the 19cabrio. I too think it looks lovely, and I've also been told that Camaros are out of the question. So much for trying to get him to go back to American.
I'm thoroughly unconvinced with the 306 cabrio. A 406 coupe would be nice though.

Or celica convertible? (they look really nice imho) ![](http://www.toyotaclub.hg.pl/celica--2.jpg) ![](http://us1.webpublications.com.au/static/images/articles/i11/1170_3mg.jpg)

Another vote for the Saab convertible here. But you know I'd say that. This was mine ![](http://www.red-green.co.uk/web/photos/gallery/vert/images/full/detail_004.jpg) One word of caution though... The Rover convertible shown in the shortlist at the beginning of this thread... don't touch with a barge pole. Probably the worst car I've ever driven was one of those in that colour. Shocking in every way. I mean a truly redicilious car in every respect. Don't... all I can say... ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

Okay, different angle here, but he could try a trike. I keep seeing old boys with stiff legs riding those. Something like a Goldwing for supreme comfort. Put a trailer behind it and it will haul more than a MX5! And much quicker too.

Saw a trike the other day. It was about the same length as a minibus. I just couldn't help but chuckle. Of course it had all the usual stuff like a massive - visible - engine and much longer than necessary handlebars. Totally redicilious.

As for not touching a Rover 214/216 I'm not sure why you say shocking? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) Ive driven them and personally they were nicer to drive than the Escorts/Golfs/Puntos etc from that era. Ok the 1.4's have the headgasket issues, but they are simple to fix and far more comfortable than the alternatives imo. Ok they are all a bit harsh, but you have to expect that from a car who has had its main strengthening roof chopped off. Proper cabrios that were made to be as such drive completely different and are not really a fair comparison.

Soarer is a Superb suggestion! Might look more into that one. As for trikes, mmm, no. He (and I) are diehard two-wheel fans and wouldn't be seen dead on a vehicle with all the disadvantages of both a car and bike, and the advantages of neither ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) And I'm quite happy if he chooses a 214 or 216 cabrio. I don't know about the ride, but I'm certainly more than convinced they can be super reliable, as my 214si has proven to me in the last two months. Celica would be nice but very hard to find over here. Not adverse to travelling to England for a car but would like to be able to test drive one here first before buying a better one on the mainland.

MR2s are stupidly cheap now. Could get a decent Mk1 or 2 T bar for a grand and spend the rest on a holiday to top up his tan... or a bit of plastic surgery!
