My Mojo has gone... As you now all know the Slamtana is up for sale I bet there has been a few why's.. Well its cos my Mojo has gone with it, so I've thrown my toys out the pram and stuck it up for sale.. Reasons behind the madness.. every month its a little spend getting something else done.. there's been lots of little things, that don't really bother me.. but the main things started with the slam, took a while but got there, looks great, but now the rear springs knocking a bit so need to source some.. Another job Exhaust was ok, but we trialled fitted a 4" jobbie courtesy of Retro Rides member Rich, which looked cool, sounded awesome up close and short blasts, but on a run deafening.. so that cam off, on went the standard back box, but this didn't marry up to the pip Rich made up for me, so a trip up to see Neil at Crazyquiffs saw another pipe fabbed straight through to the original back box - sounds bloody awesome now, not to loud, little raspy, but great.. now the issue is its knocks on the beam so need to get it all re-adjusted!! Next up following the slam, the tracking is miles out so its eaten a front tyre, which I didn't realise till I tried to stop in the wet and skidded halfway across a roundabout!! luckily avoiding everything on it... So now needs a new tyre and tracking sorting out!! Paintwork on the arch, was a right royal pain in the and I'm still not happy with it.. The Headlining, bit of a PITA, but done, still need to sort the visors out which means sewing machine which neither Mrs Lawsy nor I have a bloody clue how to use! final straw came last week, car up at CQ's having a simple easy job, exhaust manifold Gaskets.. Turned into an epic saga, we thought I might due to a snapped bolt.. but boy wasn't expecting 7 hours!! Hurt the wallet big time!! Now I know that once the tracking and tyre is done then in theory it should be hassle free for a while, but the Mojo is gone.. So what to do.... Options for the vote Option1 - Stop being a dick, withdraw the adverts and keep it, Mojo will return and its bloody cool car!! Option 2 - No harm in seeing if it will sell, if it doesn't then SORN till Mojo returns.. Option 3 - Keep on with the sale and follow the dream I've had since 15 years old (18years ago) which is now annoyingly eating at me!! but may take 2-3 years to complete Option 4 - Use option 1 and Take parts from option 3 and do them to Slamtana and make 1 cool ride!! The dream.. 1967 (or earlier) Beetle.. Painted Satin black with gloss black flames.. Slammed front with tucked rims, little drop on rear, hot rod style.. Red Steelies, banded rears with chrome centres.. Pinstriped on rear tailgate, front of car having Goss black ghost flames, pinstriped in a very dark grey.. Interior in red vinyl, with black painted section and black carpet Inspirations and voices of reason welcomed!! Help me restore my Mojo!!

Option 5. Keep the Slamtana and SORN it, borrow my Beetle for the summer as I need it out of the garage to help with our move. Smoke around in a cheesy 70s banana until you get bored, return said Beetle to the garage in the new house

the biggest issue lies with "is this a car I want to keep long term/forever?" If it is, SORN until mojo-return. If it's not, there's no point flogging a dead horse, get shot and pursue whatever you REALLY want.

For the money that you're selling the Slamtana for you'd struggle to get an anywhere decent Beetle to use as a base for your dream car.
I'd be running as quickly as possible in the direction of Reading lol.

Problem is, older modified cars will always have that issue of you needing or wanting to tidy those little jobs that aren't quite right or you'd have done differently if you were to do it again but didn't for time/money/talent.
I know, I've been there and visit that place all too frequently, if you go the Beetle route you might find yourself where you are mentally right now again quicker than you think.
Think long and hard before you push it on and what you really want to ride.....

My mojo always swings between apathy and intense focus. If your hearts with the Slamtana keep it and enjoy it, but it sounds like TBH your not that into it. If your hearts is really in getting a Beetle, keep the 'tana but avoid spending money on it and just save for a Beetle. the biggest issue lies with "is this a car I want to keep long term/forever?" If it is, SORN until mojo-return. If it's not, there's no point flogging a dead horse, get shot and pursue whatever you REALLY want. ^^^^^ Yep I got that E30 which I fixed and I did enjoy it, I had loads of plans for it. But deep down I knew it did nothing for me, sold it and got another Sierra and now (except for the annoying misfire) I'm a really happy chappie. Having said that Speedman's offer is really really generous and could help you get the head space you need to either get the 'tana finished or get "that" beetle you really want!

Sierra - here we go again! He has an illness, it's not his fault.

Mate I'm in the exact same position as yourself. I do a job on it and theres always something else its never ending. I keep going to the point of selling it but honestly no one wants it. The other big reason for me is that sadly just before xmas my father passed away. So my mojo is completely dead/ vanished.
The question you need to ask yourself is that could you bare watching someone else drive off in YOUR cool car never to get to use it again, never being able to feel that sense of Yeah this is my car u can drool all you want.
The thing that made me keep mine recently was I went to get some oil from halfords and at a box junction as I turned right, I passed a new Porsche boxter and the owner just staired with his mouth gapping and tht gave me THAT feeling tht only you can get.

Its not getting used at the moment and I need the garage space for storage until we finally move, then i'll need to sort the new garage out to fit it in there. So for at least a month you could pootle round in it, garage isn't a massive problem, its not the middle of winter! Its barely turned a wheel since we got the MOT so theres plenty of mileage left of the limit. Lets have a chat and see what we can sort out

I fully appreciate those comments. I know EVERY old car will always need money throwing at it. That's par for the course/pleasure of owning one.
As to buying a. Eetle straight off then that won't happen. Plan would be to stash the cash in an ISA and keep adding till I've enough for the right project.
Steve. Really appreciate the offer. As said it might put me off one altogether and love the tana more. So chat sounds good whenever suits you.
As to the santana driving off and me never driving it again. We'll I'm not sure on that front hence this thread. I've sold cas before and regretted it but most have been something I can pick up again. These santanas don't come along very often and it does have potential. Just wish I could afford to keep and also do the beetle idea.

Keep it. It's unusual, interesting, and its rather ace if you ask me. don't worry about losing the mojo bit. All the best ones cause you grief now and then. My advice: Fix the tracking and the tyre. Then go and do the little things that are cheap, DIY, and will bring back the mojo. If it was mine, I'd lose the rubbing strips, the mudflaps and the badges. The follow it up with a mild tint (then again, in Oz you NEED tinting). It'll look like a totally different car, it'll drive better, and you'll wonder why you ever thought of selling it. And have a look through this epic, epic thread. Plenty of dubbin inspiration there... retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=81170&page=1

I'm starting to think keeping a wee while longer might be the answer..
I had a dream last night (daft i know) of it painted 2 tone, silver top half, graphite silver bottom half with a red metalflake roof on some wheels which looked cool but big, probably 17's or 18's- where that came from is beyond me - lol
So this morning before coming into work, whipped off the front wheel and dropped it into the tyre shop and arranged for tracking next week...

Two-tone and red metalflake roof would look awesome. Do that

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Perhaps buy a farm, cull and plant Santana "cuttings", until one day they grow up to be a "Santana Ranch" like the place your stood in Texshuss?
Drive Steve's car, what an offer!
