Why the curse word do teachers think that you have to be an idiot to be a mechanic?
It really pisses me off. When I trained to be a mechanic I had to understand physics, chemistry and methematics to know how an engine worked.
How is that for idiots?
To be fair, there are 2 different types of mechanic.
1) Technician (like myself) trained to know exactly what's wrong with a car just by listening to it or inspecting it.
2) Fitter, trained to change parts as and when he's told to by the technician.
It's the fitter that everyone thinks of when you say mechanic, people always think that mechanics are muppets, an image that isn't helped by the likes of kwik fit.
Would these people call formula 1 mechanics idiots? I think not.
Are the guys at Prodrive who tune the rally Impreza's idiots?
No, they're mechanics!
Will the snobbery ever end?
Un curse word likely!
Here endeth the rant
