Needed a van for a flat removal, hiring a pain, nothing down local auctions in throw away price range.
So just got a very tatty espace off gumtree.
its a 1991 mk2, 2.0l manual
How low can i go, i had a quick look underneath and looks solid and clean. other than fuel cap top half pretty much fiberglass so not any grot to worry about.
So where does lowering springs for these old busses. rears look about same size as vw t4
fronts i'm guessing be same as ren 25 21?
Its got ticket till dec.
I was hoping to find a mk1 but all seem to have disappeared

At 16 my then boss chucked me the keys to his v6 Espace and told me drive it to his place in Stepney, I nearly slammed it on several occasions but not in a good way Know nothing of the suspension set up other than as standard they have that cushy smooth Frenchness about them. Spring chop?

I wanted a V6 but will have to go to london alot, and towing so can't justify the mpg. i think a 21 turbo would make good donor at a later date!
i've suggested the f1 look but been denied. But Provisional Consent on rollered JCB Yellow.

I would love someone to do this to a Mk1: Please someone do it soon just to prevent me from randomly purchasing the first Mk1 I see for sale and slamming it! Just after I did that photoshop I vowed to do it.....but only if no one else does it first. I say it again, please someone do it???

Very nice Bruce. I'd love a Mk1. My dad had one. Good memories. Had a later one too that I learned to drive in. Don't be fooled by the fibreglass. One of the back doors was rotting off my dad's went he sold it.

An obvious shape for dropping. The Mk3? That was for sale on the board a few months back tempted me with it's cheeky 5x108 PCD and the large amount of rims I have lying around in that flavour... Do it. Post pictures. Win. ;D

i must admit it was the mk2 or mk1s 100pcd that probably did t for me as i have a set of 17s that i've still failed to put on anything without major rub. knowing my luck still wont fit.
i'm still after a mk1, keep asking about a quadra one, i've been asking since 2003 and its still not for sale.

These seem to be either very good or very bad, my dad had a few as cabs, and they either go on forever (shedding interior trim) or break all the time (while shedding interior trim) the last mk1 he had was up to about 300,000 miles i think by the time he sold it but it needed a lot of nursing to get that far and broke down terminally on the way back to its new owners home (never buy on ebay without going to look what your buying if your gonna disbelieve an honest advert!)

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

I've been thinking about this for a long time, The Nissan Prairie has a similar shape and looks good lowered so why not do a mk1 espace.. The problem with these is that they're almost non existent in NL because road tax is sky high (more than 600E per year) they all got butchered. there's just one on the main car selling site, and that's 550E with no current MOT , so the prices are not fun enough to make a fun project out of one.

I've been thinking about doing this but to a fiat multipla I know, I know... 99.9% of people hate em, but in the right colour, decked to the floor, some nice dishy rims, maybe some banded steels or wide black wellers with some tyre strech and some nice wide arches i think it'd look mean. ARE YOU MAN ENOUGH TO ADMIT YOU'D ROLL A MULTI? ?

hahahaa, funnily enough me ol' man switched from the Espaces to the multipla's they too fall to bits, he's had a lot of electrical and clutch problems with his, you know the thing he's had the longest with the least grief? A VW T4 minibus, its bigger and uses more juice but it took it 500,000 miles to wear out and snap its camshaft which is what it did a fortnight ago.

You can get lowered springs but they run at over £300 a set. Backs are easy to chop but looking at my fronts they look pig tailed on both ends. I am going to be doing it this summer though so I'll keep you informed. I'm tied on colour choice, was also thinking yellow (like the Fiat or Seat yellow) as I've never seen one, but as it's that lovely light council house green I'm getting inclined to do a green metalflake on it. Lots slag these off but they really are a cracking bit of kit. All the issues like door handles breaking and the heater fan not working can be sorted cheaply. The understeer on mine was pretty bad until I chucked on some 7x15 Momo's with 205 50 15's and now it's like a huge go kart.

Will do! I want something with dish though, hate flat faced rims. But at £50 they were cheaper than buying a standard tyre lol.

I've been thinking about doing this but to a fiat multipla ARE YOU MAN ENOUGH TO ADMIT YOU'D ROLL A MULTI? ? Funny you should say that....Rich & I were discussing doing this to a Multipla only a week or so ago. He wasn't convinced but I reckon they are totally ripe for this treatment (love for the unloved & all that). I'd love to see one done really well. I've always liked them in that 'oddball' way. Meh to the 'issues'....this is Retro Rides and 90% of the cars on here have issues, so this shouldn't be a bone of contention. That one in the for sale section recentl looked like a good starting point - not a lot of money....but the ad seems to have had all the details/photos removed!! Not sure what happened there?
