For some unknown reason I have developed the urge to buy a MGB GT. This affliction has become so bad now that I am currently bidding for one on eBay. I've no idea why I want one, I just do, the last one I had was years ago, a Costello V8 replica, although how I insured a V8 when I'd not long passed my test I don't know. I've always wondered about fitting a Rover T series Turbo engine to one. There must be loads of reasons why I shouldn't get one, or should I? Have a GT with a nissan turbo engine:

There is a chap in brighton with a t series that is seriously fast. Cool cars, but few modded well and a lot of bobble hat chrome buffers about - heaps of potential win. I'm doing one at the mo, bumperless and some mild tweaks to the b-series. then the search for cool wheels is on - as PCD is 4x114.3 there are plenty of J options if you have the cashola! Couple from my p-bucket and I know i posted them before - but the mG threads tend to drop fairly quickly round here! And BGTMidget/ChasR should be along soon to show us what can be done.

T series was a popular swap years ago, its just as easy if not eaiser to fix a MX5 block with supercharger. Fitting the T will make it seriously quick so just for that factor I say do it. fitting a V8 is pretty simple, however I do like the Nissan turbo one but it did require quite a bit of chopping. As for wheels, well GW has stated the fitment the only issue you have is the rear arches cover the part of the wheel, so either jack it to clear or cut it away. The fitment is shared with the Popular J-Tin cars so some seriously cool wheels to be had. why you should not get one..........Humm rot and rot ahh and some rot. In standard form they don't handle and aint fast. Polybush the suspension, lower (more so if a ruppber bumper model), uprate the dampers all round and you will have a car that handles. As for the engine I refuse to total up the amount I have spent on the B-Series blocks, but with cash to burn you can have a N/A produce 185BHP. I love them, having restored 2, and still own one I just cant get enough. I think they are great looking cars and the only reason there is not much love on these pages is down to the lack of Modded ones, ahh and the fact the "Flat cap" owners can be a bit snobish for some odd reason. You will never have a parts issue as everything is still made even complete shells. Mine running a Modified B-Series V8 pratically a straight swap O series K Series Plenty of scope for Engines

Your car looks really cool thanks for the advice. The rot is my only realy concern, I remember a constant battle against it on the V8. Upsetting the snobby flat cap type by modifiying it doesn't bother me, although I'd probably want to leave it looking standard. The one I'm bidding on is a rubber bumper one, but currently the price is right, which is the important bit as I already have another project on the go.

Do it!!! Yes, they do have a bit of a bufty image. But they are smashing fun to drive, and have the biggest club following/spares backup in the world. Daddy Damaged's been messing about with MGB's for 25 years...at the minute he's got a scruffy '78 Roadster needing a bit of bodily TLC but structurally/mechanically superb in his workshop. I was gonna take it on before last Christmas but a couple of 2CV's got in the way. Now I've sacked those off negotiations are under way (as they say). If I do end up with it, I've no plans to modify it, just to get it back on the road and enjoy it. You know it makes sense. ;D

I've recntly entered into the realm of small British sportscars, and I'm loving it! Not much to add to the above really. The flat cap and polish brigade are present in most classic circles, I think there are just more of them because MGB's are popular. Another thing I don't like is the petty brand-loyalty that I've noticed sometimes - MG vs. Triumph, and Bond vs. Reliant... but that doesn't really bother me and it certainly isn't present on RR! Cheap and available parts are a godsend, as is the huge amount of knowledge out there about them. Modified MGB's aren't that common, and they're such a good base to start with. This means you can create something unique, intersting and cool that hasn't been done before! Go for it!

I love mine! Must drive it more really. Reminds me of the child of a Porsche 356 and a E-type fixed head. As said before, rust is an issue, parts are not although some silly money (tryining to get a rev counter for less than the car cost at present!). Engine's isn't quick but seem reliable so far. Happily restarts after 6 months laid up over winter on the second turn. Get a good reaction form everyone I've found. Need to see more modified ones though. I bought mine unseen and was planning a retro racer look / slat flat racer until I saw it and realised was too nice to mess with too much. Only mods so far are Porsche mirrors, removed over riders and tucked plate behind rather than in front of bumper. Here she is waiting to come out: And once out, prior to over-rider removal:

As said before, rust is an issue, parts are not although some silly money (tryining to get a rev counter for less than the car cost at present!). I picked up an MGB rev counter at an autojumble for about £7. Every other stall seemed to have at least one, and all for less than a tenner. It was a later rubber bumper type though... are the early ones different / made of unobtanium?
