Saw it in a book years back and really quite liked it. I think it'd have sold, tbh. But, went the way of so many BL products of the day, into the archives to be quietly forgotten --Phil It's on display at the Hertiage Centre, IMHO it's absolutely gorgeous in the flesh. Here's my favourite: One of my schoolmate's dads had a 1750HL, he took us all down to Skate City in London for his son's 13th birthday treat in 1978. I think that was the first time I'd been in a car at 100mph (on the M40 near High Wycombe), sure impressed the hell outta me! As has been already said, it's a bit harsh to describe 70's BL output as 'awful', as they were certainly no worse than equivalent Ford/GM products of the time. Anyone (like me) who remembers their fathers slapping masses of filler/chickenwire into the front wings of 5/6/7 year-old Cortinas/Corsairs, fitting new cams into Capris after only 30,000 miles or fitting new gearboxes to Vauxhall Victors will appreciate the reasons why "you don't see many of these around anymore". 'They don't make 'em like they used to'. Bl00dy good job, too!!! ;D

You know how you get some threads that you Really shouldn't read because of teh resulting Want factor?
This is one of them. i have Too greater draw towards BL vehicles (technically i own 4 already! though i think my Mini & 110 were Rover by then, still find teh BL logo on parts like engines etc!! ;D)

Yep..... this is one of 'em for sure. For me.... this one has to be the best car BL never built! I think that BL's downfall was similar to that of Rootes/Chrysler. It wasn't that the cars were less reliable than Ford or Vauxhall...... is just that they were too slow at updating and replacing the models. Consequently..... ending up with a reputation for shameless 'badge engineering' and a range of cars that were well past their sell by date.

I think the reason that BL failed is that they released awesome concept cars/drawings to get everybody excited then when the actual car was released they were all a bit ugly lol.

BL's main problem was nothing to do with quality or development, etc. They were victims (as was the coal industry, etc) of union action and a British workforce that really couldn't be arsed to... work! Much like now, really. Ban unions, that's what I say! I'm a bit of a BL nut myself, and have owned several Allegros, christ knows how many Minis. half a dozen Metros, an SD1, a few 1500's/Dolomites, a Landcrab, one or two Sherpas, an Ambassador, 3 Acclaims and my current TR7, and "I was there" right from the very earliest days of www.austin-rover.co.uk... E-type based concept Acyually that's a Guyson E12, designed by William (Aston Martin Lagonda) Towns, it was never a BL-endorsed concept.
