Anyone else really hate selling cars?! I've decided I must sell my celica, got a house move to fund and to be fair it is sitting there doing nothing - but still hate the thought of seeing her drive away After two trips to the nurburgring in it, i've got pretty attached to the old girl I also hate the fact that I end up chucking money at it before I sell it, you know all those little jobs you never got round to do, but always find time just before you sell it?!?

My girlfriend cried when I sold my Daihatsu Charade GTti! I still miss it too, but it needed to go.

I avoid selling mine. This is why I've had my Anglia for 10 years this summer, a car I didn't even like or particularly want when I bought it ;D

Depends. I've had a lot of cars, around 115 or so since my car buying career began when I was 14. Out of all of those cars, I've probably only really cared when maybe 10 of them were sold on. It's the one's with the memories, or the one's with the quirks. Out of all of them though, the one that broke my heart, and I mean that in the same way that the first girl you dated broke your heart, was my 1977 MK 2.0 Capri. It was a nail, it smelled funny, I handled like curse word and it looked even worse. But, it never let me down, me and my then girlfriend had some amazing time and went to some amazing places, it was with me through thick and thin, and it never once failed me. It had it's moments, but all old cars do. When I sold that, and I don't care about being manly, I shed a tear. I loved that car. Thankfully though, the reason for selling it was well worth it... The thing is, we only get like that when selling a certain car because that's who we are, we're car people. It's not the sale of a generic asset, it sale of part of ourselves. But personally, that just makes me proud to have a passion so strong. Blimey, that was deep for a Thursday. Chris

Alot of people will now know about this story, but here it is again ;D I really hated selling my 1991 Ford Escort 1.6L estate. There were a few little problems with it (like the tailgate didnt open), but the fact that it had a fast road spec XR3 engine fitted, and had a lovely deep burble from the exhaust (standard, not chav), I just loved it. Sadly I had to sell it due to insurance costs and the fact that the engine didnt like going slow Only got £300 for it

The only time I ever got a bit upset over a car departing was when my Dad sold the mk2 escort he bought brand new the week I was born - he sold it when I was about 10 to buy a talbot horizon, and I was gutted!
I put more work into the first 2 cars I owned than anything since - one was stolen and burned out, the other one was written off by the local vicar whilst I was sat stationary at a junction - after those experiences, I've always seen cars as fairly disposable I suppose, although I enjoy owning things that are a bit different and tinkering with them, I don't get really attached to them.

I've seldom sold any car, they get driven into the ground and end up as scrap. I've had my Range Rover over 6 years she's done about 22K miles in that time, and I will not get rid of it, when the body goes I'll drop a Land Rover on it. Andy.

For better or for worse this is me too. I normally buy at the very bottom end of the market and all that has changed over the years is that the cars last longer as my mechanical knowledge and sympathy has grown. They still get a pasting though ;D Only ever sold about 4 cars and only one of them for a profit. The £25 did not soften the blow as it was the one car I was truely sad to see go

Regretted SORN ing my old pilacrapola Mini so much I nearly cried a couple weeks ago. It was a crock of old dog poo:the engine burned oil like nobody's business,2nd gear had handed in it's notice a long time ago, there was no suspension to speak of and the brakes needed a good firm pump to prepare them for the nightmare of actually trying to stop the heap, the interior was in tatters and the body looked likt it belonged in a scrapyard , but it was like my signature. It was mine and everybody knew me by it. No one ever told me they saw my car parked somewhere, they always saw my Mini. It had so much character,so much soul. The Renault 19 I replaced it with is a million miles better in every respect and I can't wait to get rid of it again. Guess that says it all. Apologies for the rant. But I've wanted to write thatt for a long time. RIP dear friend. Thanks for the memories And by the way my friends call me unhinged.I'm starting to think they're right

Not cried yet, probably never will.... not about a car. But I have become more attached to the Transit than any other car. Nicola was crying like a leaky tap when we just thought of selling the Anglia as part of the funding for the house we want to buy.

I have a very expensive to run 4.0L Discovery, I bought 12 months last November I bough as a 3rd car, as my mam could get in and out with little if any difficulty, never meant as an everyday car, till the Rover 75 was written off last year, despite the running costs and not to healthy engine I'm hanging on to her for dear life, as a vehicle I think the world of her. the first car was not easy to give away for me, as it was the first i TUVed it for 2 years and gave it away (in favour of the Audi 100 i still have, thats now 20 years ago)... but i knew that it was it last TUV and i didn't want to scrap the car . If i sell a car today, then i try to give it in good hands; on the 81 aircooled transporter it worked; also the 86 syncro Passat was saved; unfortunately the last Passat i sold was scrapped immediately after picking up from here, there were some smaller things to do for TÃœV (exhaust rubbers etc.) but the guy couldn't be arsed to repair it. Most of the cars i have are almost part of the familiy so they won't be sold .

Only ever sold one car and been really upset by it. I bought a Mk1 Renault 5 in 1993 and loved it. Spent a fortune on it and went through a lot of good and bad times with it. Always made me smile but by 2006 it really needed restoring. Took it off the road and just lost motivation. Impending house move meant selling was the sensible option so in November 2006 it went to an enthusiast who would end up breaking it for parts. I remember the afternoon before he collected it, going outside, opening the door for the last time and having a final sit in the drivers seat and saying my goodbyes
