..and we(I) want it to go from this: to this:(stance wise) I want to know if any of you have ever got a midget this low? and is it possible to do this without completely chopping up the chassis the wheel on the right is of a 19" flavour. so that would sit VERY low and if you are wondering why the car is sitting on its front hubs - fell off the scissor jack while I was putting an axle stand underneath it although it did make me see how good one would look that low ;D

I don't know how low these sit on the suspension anyway but you could surely loose at least 2" using short springs. Could the inner wishbone pin be relocated upwards at all? Lever arm could surely be moved up a bit to match? Possibly dropped spindles of some sort. Maybe Mini 10" wheels too I think the gauntlet for a proper low MG has been laid down

Lol, thats what i like about you lot.. discussing lowering a car thats already lower than anything! I mean, you sit about 6-8" from the road in a standard one (and the ground clearance ain't great) I'll look at ours tomorrow tho.. seeing as the gauntlet is down ;D

|
To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

That height is about the same as the Racing Midgets have so yes you can do it. Most of them run a Frontline seup but its doable at home.
You can get -1.5" lowering springs on the front and -2" for the back, wiill sit just about there. You exhaust WILL scrub though, both of my midgets (1 standard Rubber bumper height, other lowered) both scrub.

A friend of mine had one that sat roughly that low, it was on decambered leaf springs, it didnt have lowering blocks but maybe you could add those aswell.

you can get lowering blocks for the back and springs for the front - but the floor only has about four inches clearance anyway, plus the exhaust hangs below that, so stupid low would be tricky

This sounds ace, hope it comes together.
Although not stylistically appropriate could side pipe(s) be an option, or something along the lines of the rally healeys with the exhauset running in a recess in the sill. Or could the exhaust enter the passenger footwell and run through the inside to an exit just in front of the rear wheel, would be easier if the exhaust manifold is on the correct side - I know nothing about A-Series.

You exhaust WILL scrub though, both of my midgets (1 standard Rubber bumper height, other lowered) both scrub. For extreme lowering, you could run the exhaust through the car with some heat shielding? Might need to bin the passenger seat though, but then you could go for an old-skool racer style front screen that only covers the driver? Depends how extreme you want to go really!

Great idea if you ask me, do a write up if you do it, as I'm interested in doing sprite/midget sometime theres not much space in the sill, but two smaller diameter pipes could conceivably fit, then exit into the rear wheel arch and pop over the axle. lots of work though. And I'm not sure it would be that much work given the WIN that it would result in But surely the easiest thing to do would be to add a tunnel next to the transmission tunnel (box in a bit more trans tunnel) and run the pipe down that? Then if my memory of midgets is any good all you'd need to do is notch the seat to make it fit - and obviously invest in lots of heat sheilding to stop you melting the passenger! Or, fit a turbo which will have the lovely effect of removing most of the noise from the exhuast (and give power obviously ) and then just pipe the exhaust out around the A-pilar - instant WIN, and easy to do if you have an A-series lump ;D

some good ideas there ;D, I totally forgot about decambered springs  unfortunately I had to sell this one up, due to space being an issue but soon there will be loads of space and I will try buy one for the slam treatment looks over practicality any day for me so scrubbing won't bother me too much - the vw guys manage with it, ill be fine ;D when I was looking at it, while I had it in my posession, I was thinking of notching the front chassis to allow the wishbones to travel further up but would need a home brew front turret set up I think

Have we all forgotten about Dr. Sexy's Midge of WIN, last seen blasting round the track at RRG? ;D Slammed Midget? Done! He's not updated the thread for aaages (will give him a poke) but iirc it's down about 4' at the front a 3' at the rear (on Mini shocks) with 14's on the rear and 13's up front. His was US-spec (rubber bumper) so had the plates under the rear spring hangers to raise the car 0.5' as standard (now binned, obv.) Re. exhaust issues - you seem to be able to get away with a lot more lowness in a car with such a short wheelbase without too much scrapage. Sexy's Midge probably has a good 0.5" less ground clearance than my Benz yet he can go places I can't.. HC.

Ace! certainly will, thank you that low midget has made me realise how bloody cheap I got mine for mine had new sills and floors all for a grand total of £215 with a working engine and I sold the whole thing to a chap for about £150 after stripping all the valuables out damn. oh well I shall have another and much lower me thinks

lets resurrect this, anyone found/noticed/etc any problems/ideas with this?
also to prevent making a new thread, is it realistic to find a midget for under £1k with an MOT OR not rotten/ (couldnt care about the appearance of it aslong as they are solid)? as ill be in a position to get one soon...
