After seeing the other Landy's on here i thought id show you mine. Excuse the order, but I'm copying and pasting from LR4x4 Forum. So here goes. The first part begins in January 2009 and goes till today so far....
So after seeing Britparts 110/100 at the Autosport show:
I decided a Van was the way forward, so i purchased this beauty:
Got the Rangy wheels on the 110 as i sold the steelies to Brian:
John got stuck in on the 110:
Clearance is huge on the Rangy rims lmao
And wing off:
No wonder the brakes didnt work, they werent connected:
And the front ends off:
I got the back door off:
And then made it into a convertible, and how it rests tonight:
Got the sides off:
Doors have seen better days:
Doors off:
Seats out:
Screen off:
Dash out:
And how i left it tonight:
Then i took the inner wings off the 110s outer wings:
We got the footwells out:
John got the seat box out:
Whilst i was fitting my arches to the Disco (see my other thread), John and Paul were getting the engine out the 110:
110 engineless:
And the got the sills off the 110:
Whilst John started on the Buck:
John assuming his natural position:
So we got the buck off:
I rolled it forward:
And had loads of muck to clear up from underneath:
Then got the servo and master off, and loom out:
Then the heater off:
And bulkhead off:
Yesterday i got the Defenders exhaust off:
And the shocks, and the shock mounts:
And the fuel lines:
The started on the towbar:
But Laney turned up with cake, so obviously nothing else got done.
With the Disco sold this is my main off road transport. Best crack on then.
So this week i got hold of these to continue on the Defender chassis:
Ive ground back the front half! doesnt look much as its dusty but last pic shows the difference...
Another good day today. I carried on:
Got the tank out:
And cracked on:
So all good. New rear crossmember and new outriggers needed and thats all
Let the fun begin!
Picked up my bargain Warn 8274 today
got the front axle off:
And started replacing outriggers. You can also see ive wire wheeled the chassis and all looks good
A couple of weeks ago i pulled the defender out:
Got the buck off and up against the wall
Got the A bar undone:
Then the springs out and trailing arms undone:
And got the axle away and with the buck:
Then with a little help from my friends, turned the chassis upside down and back on stands ready for the underside to be cleaned up and the grot dealt with:
I carried on stripping the chassis of bushes, arms etc and then grinded the crud off and its all mint underneath so thats all good
And got the gearbox crossmember off the defender:
Then this arrived.....
She's a beut! Drives lovely and other than the little dent in the door and the small corrosion on one arch its very tidy.
Only just fits under the car port though!
This weekend just gone i went to Mr 'Lips' Lane's to collect him and his trailer, and we trundled of to Canterbury. They had a fair amount of snow!
And loaded up my new purchase
Was very impressed with the silver one. 300 miles, £60 of diesel and bear in mind half the time it was carrying its weight again plus the trailer. We had a 35mph climb up the M20s hills lmao and we got wasted by the passing arctics, and a 'don't look in the rear view mirror' moment when we got some snaking going on, but other than that a good run. Thanks again to Lips for his driving duties, which ill need again come scrap time
So today we cracked on. It started like this:
And ended up like this:
I got the props, exhaust, gear selector, Gearbox cooler, engine mounts, and gearbox mounts all disconnected, whilst John disconnected the engine, oil cooler, rad and intercooler, removed the interior parts and front end bits.
Wednesday we will cut the front panel off and lift the lot out. Jobs a goodun
Today then i started by getting the gearbox crossmember off:
Then John got the engine chained up:
And we started extracting it:
And all out:
Then i got all the fuel out and put it in my other one. Half a tank Bonus!
Today then i started removing the dash parts:
Whilst John removed the engine mounts:
Then i got the wings off:
Whilst John got under to undo/cut off the A bar:
Then up to get the axle off:
After getting the rear axle off:
It had a brand new OE Land Rover exhaust. An extra bit for eBay
Yesterday was a treacherous trip up to the workshop:
One we had changed Brians knackered suspension we got the donor ready to go:
And today we backed the trailer under:
It wasnt quite that simple but Laney and i got it on in the end:
And once at the scrappy and don'd our hard hats and high viz we got it off:
And there was a rather shortened Rangey there already lol:
Shows how bloody heavy the engine is lol:
So now the Disco has gone i can get the chassis back out:
And removed the defenders engine mounts:
And mounted the engine on the chassis:
Oh hang on, wrong way. I couldnt bolt the box down as needed some new mounting bushes, so picked them up from the local specialist and ill go back and bolt it down tomorrow ready to get the engine mounts welded on. Also struck a deal with the guy to get my out riggers that i need for the same price i found them on the net. I think ill be a regular at Phils place!
Right so today i arrived, armed with my new mounts:
And got the Gearbox and TX box mounted:
Then jacked it all back up to cut the old engine mounts off, and grinded back the welds:
Then i bolted up the old disco mounts that need welding on here after id flapped them down:
And dug out 2 of the 4 out riggers that need welding on. Pick the other two up saturday:
And then got the donors rear axle ready to go to Johns, as he's buying it for his 90:
Collected my new rear outriggers:
Got them welded on, and then the Engine mounts:
And engine mounted
Today then, got the chassis rotated and upside down:
Then cut the brackets off the old outriggers:
Unfortunately the new bolts and spreader plates havent come in yet so cant put them on.
Then i sat down and made some phone calls. Both John and I are having our chassis's blasted and galvanised so i needed to get us some quotes.
Blasting is about £80-100 and galving at a local place is 80p per KG which includes the acid dip first. So all in its cheaper than i thought. I'm guessing my chassis is about 150kg but i need to look it up and check as i don't have a clue. 2 people can lift it though so even 150 sounds excessive, but we shall see. But I'm pleased! The Mrs asked if id booked it in yet lmao I think she secretly likes Land Rovers
Then as i has a tyre getting low on the Disco, and a brand new matching spare i thought id get them changed over:
I was in good company. Almost my dream garage here too!
So disco is now back on matching wheels More tomorrow!
So got the Chassis back yesterday, and theres not as many holes as i thought, so thats a result! Some thinning is obvious so will have that remedied, and the rear cross member is reasonable too, so no real need to replace that either. Heres some pics:
So get these sorted, get the outriggers on then off for acid dip and galvanising
And thats it up to today
