My Skoda has blown up. Yes thats right. are you sitting comfortably? then ill begin. My dad drove the car home 140miles and all was well. I did notice when i got it home the rad overflow was piped into a gallon jug. When the engine was turned off it was blowing some coolent out and the owner was topping it up. The cause of the problem was the rad cap so i got a new one and fitted it. BAD MOVE. with the systems new found pressure when the engine was turned off and the system pressuried it was letting coolent into the cylinders, on restarting the car would put out massive ammounts of white smoke. I used some of the gasket repair solution to get me back to swansea but now it has died officially and wont start. So i have to do a head gasket on a massive hill in the street in time for monday so i can go home to go to my girlfriends grandads funeral and I'm buried in Uni work. I'm not having a lot of fun at the moment.

What rotten luck! Bloody commie cars. Seems to be a lot of 'skoda death' around at the moment, Skoda Norm and Mattblack have mullered a couple in recent days.

i know i just read about that, i wouldnt mind if id been raggin it but id only done 4 miles and was trying to have it proper with a decent rad cap on and the bodywork done so it would be spot on for uni. If id have left the stupid leaky cap it would have been alright.
I shall now put away my tiny violin and stop moaning, normal service will be resumed.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Anything i can do mate? Work is silly at the moment, but it appears as though we have a couple of weeks free from assignments coming up.

cheers mate, ill see what i can do tomorrow about getting gaskets and stuff. It should be easy as long as its not dropped a liner. Its just a pain.

that sucks! I hope it hasn't put you off the car, because when they are going they really are good fun! Yeah, i was just about to mention checking the liners are all at the right height. Once you've finished that one, if you want to come and do the one on my white skoda... ... didn't think so! seriousily, i know it is , but once it is sorted they really are good cars. ps - i didn't 'muller' a skoda, i just started rebuilding one....

If you can (have the time) get that head skimed as well as it will probabley be warped; especially if fault has been ongoing

Welcome to the world of Skoda ownership. I had a Skoda that didn't need a head gasket once...I sold it quickly before it did! I'm not known for looking after cars though!

Bumholes! I killed my estelle in this way too. The first time it went I fixed it fairly swiftly - you may have noticed by now that you only need about 3 spanners to do ANYTHING on an estelle. The second time the HG let go it also killed the block & head. Nasty & ultimately terminal

My too, were both in my ownership a year each, both with about 50k one a 120L Estelle, the other a 136 Favorit. both had no gasket problems.
Iron headed 120 engines are better for resisting warpage than alloy 136 heads.

well i had the head off today and the gasket has gone between the middle cylinders and the linres are all ok. I'm having the head skimmed in the morning and picking up my gasket set so I'm going to try and get it back together tomorrow or Saturday. Have to say its the easiest car ive ever worked on. having never even seen under the bonnet of one before until i bought this on the head was off in a little over half and hour. The big bonus is the exhaust is so easy to take off and replace which has always been the biggest pain on my other cars. I cant wait to get a quick engine and 5 speed box in it now.
