Tat in many different forms has taken over my life forever in one way or another. And i may have a new project (details in another thread when it happens), this one to be stored at my dads, which will cause no end of problems etc. people don't understand and reasoning doesnt make sense to other people either! Not to mention i don't have the time or money to take on another project, what the hell you only live once! Taking on junk and old cars takes up time and money, and most saturdays recently have been taken up collecting curse word via the M6 like a womble. There are better collectors on here than me though. So can you collect tat while harmoniously getting on with your life or is it taking over?

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

No. Despite the fact my room is now for no apparent reason packed with iron-on British Leyland and ST patches. And a spud gun has appeared, along with a pair of 50 p's and a tube of superglue. ARG! I'm confused

Probably but is it taking over your life? is all your time and money spent on this obsession?

haha, ive spent the day cleaning up my room, and so far ive found.
4 various broken and stripped ford speedo's (my car now has retrofitted capri items)
an array of rover and vauxhaul bits (mate let me have last dibs on his car before it got scrapped, so i took anythign ebayable)
an old blaunkapunkt radio i keep meaning to get round to send to darren ;D (i havent forgot)
6, 6" radyot spotlights that will go on one car, one day.
various cool looking numberplates on the wall
a load of aerial toppers lurking.
and various piston, conrod, and cam pulleys, that have all been cleaned up and are used as paperwieghts and ornaments.
i wont even try to detail the contents of the shed ;D ;D but theres most of a capri, and most of an escort in tehre somewhere amongst many many other things

Currently got 13 cars. 10 of which are project cars needing varying degrees of work doing. 4 of these are full (and i mean full ;D) of car parts and things I think will be useful A 6x4 foot shed full of parts and tools A 20x12 foot shed full of parts and tools Runnning gear from a piazza underneath a tarpaulin A 30x20 foot garage that is half full. Plus around 75 spare wheels and tyres Nope no problem there

i wouldn't call it tat, but my skoda parts is becoming quite a big pile. in my bedroom i have two window winding mechanisms off a rapid, a box of spares (filters, gasgets, etc) and until recently 2x brand new Estelle sills. In the utility room downstairs i have a full set of Rapid carpets and in my dad's work room we have a few other skoda bits. then i've got 1/2 of our lock-up with the red Skoda shell and all the MILLIONS of parts off it, and in the other half between are cars and trailers, i've got a large pile of panels, a engine, a gearbox and i think that is it. then you've got my retro car ad's collection and various car magazines....

We're in the process of moving house... probably to somewhere smaller so we've been going through our stuff and chucking things out. Frankly I'm disgusted with the ammount of stuff that we've thrown out, stuff we didn't really need.
What is even worse is every time I got to the tip, no matter what day of the week, it is full of people throwing out stuff I'm vowing to own much less tat once we've moved.
Car wise I'm pretty good, whenever I've sold or scraped a car the bits I have for it have gone with the car. Only got 4 Lotus wheels in my loft and a set of motorbike throttle bodies at the moment... Threw out an old dizzy cap last week.

When I started reading this, I thought I had loads of "tat". But actually I'm not so bad! A couple of boxes of Sierra stuff in bro's workshop, a shed full of Sierra & Lambretta bits and tools, and a 40' container which houses a Sierra, the silver Escort, the now-condensed white Escort, a set of Sierra doors/bonnet/bootlid, and most of a Lambretta J125. My other half certainly see that as bad, though.....

I used to own 16 cars and rent about 5 lockups to keep cars and car junk in. As well as having a double garage full of stuff, all rooms and attic i the house with stuff in. But I've sorted myself out a bit now. I have a tremendous amount of "stuff" though. Mazazines, hell, I threw away 3 car boot fulls of magazines when we moved house. I have old radios (the wooden or bakolite valve type), I made a half-assed attempt at collecting art deco and 1950s ceramics at one point so I have a load of that about, CDs, records, books, videos, DVDs, clothes, Scalectrix, old model kit cars, dinky cars, boxes and boxes of those, clocks (mantle, wall, alarm, whatever) and boxes of those things that people give you as house warming presents, wedding gifts, christmas etc that you can't chuck out but you have absolutely no use for...
